Greetings from Southwestern Pennsylvania (Westmoreland County)
I've had my jeep for a little over 48 hours now, and I must say that a certain calmness has fallen over me. Trading in a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe for a used (6,700 miles), black 2012 unlimited may be the best decision of my life.
I'm 28, so I fell for the flashiness of the coupe... unfortunately it wouldn't go on grass or, frankly, anything less than well-maintained tarmac. Being from Southwestern Pennsylvania, snow became my worst enemy.
My wife and I both live by the mantra of "be prepared" and having the inability to travel anywhere at anytime certainly wasn't jiving with the coupe.
I originally wanted to get a Rubicon, as I'm sure most jeep prospectors also drool over. My wife (the chief financial officer of my household) put the kabash on those plans and redirected my sight to Wrangler Sports. I am still stunned that i found a used one with 6,700 miles on it
I've already ordered my first mod- a M.O.R.E Dead Pedal. It'll arrive in about 10 days.
I hope to start slowly taking it off road, and gaining experience. I've been talking to some older off-roaders that I interact with in my daily errands and they have certainly opened my eyes to all of the opportunities in the area for off-roading. I am thinking about taking a training course offered nearby (in lieu of having any skills what so ever). The only close*ish one that I've found is at Nemacolin Woodlands (~$200) and another at Rausch Creek (quite a drive away). But ultimately, I will be taking it slow and steady.
I think that's enough for my first post. I look forward to learning from everyone and trading stories (when I get some). In the mean time, I'll keep working on making this Jeep mine and going from there.
