Hello from AL

I figured I'd start fresh in here even though I registered here several years ago. I didn't by my first Jeep until around 2011, and sadly sold it less than a year later. I wanted a jeep so bad I jumped on the first one I could afford. It was a 1998 TJ 2.5/5 speed. It looked pretty nice but after I drove it for a week or so I had terrible buyers remorse. It unfortunately was a POS and I couldn't wait to unload it. It sounds funny but I loved it, but hated it at the same time. I loved driving it, the top down and doors off was great. The tight turning radius, the way the hood looks through the windshield. It was awesome, and being in a jeep just felt right.

But, mine was neglected and I should have held out for a better one. The top was pretty bad, the seats were bad, the engine started ticking really loud, and even though I have a soft spot in my heart for 2.5L's, I couldn't stand it. The lack of A/C bothered me some too, it gets pretty hot down here. I sold it because I moved and my commute is pretty much all interstate. I don't mind the noise, but I didn't care for having my foot literally to the floor to try and maintain 65mph. I still believe something was wrong with my jeep.

Anyway that brings me to now. I have a little Ford Ranger 2wd. It's fine for what it is but I've had it nearly 2 1/2 years and I'm ready for something different. I think I want another Jeep. Well I know I do I'm just afraid I'll regret it. I will definitely be looking for a 4.0 this time around. I think it will alleviate most of the things I didn't like about my SE. Obviously I will be looking at TJ's.

Sorry I got a little long but I figured I'd give a little background. Hopefully I will be Jeepin' again soon.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear of your loss but we welcome your inevitable return!

I know you said you liked the TJ but have you given thought about a newer model line like the JK? I've never owned a TJ but I'd imagine a JK to be less problematic given the technical and mechanical advances.

I'm in Birmingham, by the way. Where are you?

I live in Calera, and work in Hoover.

I'm still trying to decide what I want. I haven't given much thought to JK's mostly because I'm looking in the $12-14k range. I'm not seriously looking yet I have to wait a little longer until I can go buy something. I think if I were to get another TJ but get one with a few more options and one that was taken care of a little more if be much happier with it.
