Hello - Looking to buy my first Wranger

Hello,

I live in Washington state and looking to buy my first 4-door, Automatic Transmission Wrangler. Looking at the inventory, it seems like there are none ( or very very few) soft tops available. After speaking to a couple of dealers, it seems like they keep very low inventory of soft top Wranglers in WA. Based on this, what are my options? Get a hard top and convert to soft top?

I was looking to lease so a little wary of modifying the car.

Thanks!

I'm a soft top fan myself

It runs upward to $1000 for a quality complete soft top. Not sure that you'd want to put that kind of investment in a leased vehicle. I'd suggest that you keep looking around until you find one that you like.

In the mean time, I just like to say . . .

I have both, soft and hard top. Down here in Florida summers are brutal, heat, heat, rain, rain and then some, hence my hard top is on at the moment.

Having said that, if I only can have one, soft top it's for me. The pros outweigh cons.

I found a 2019 Sport S with all the options and color I am looking for. The only thing is it doesn't have a soft top (something I really want). I have been looking for the past few months and haven't been able to find a soft top with the options or in any of the colors I want.

My thought is this. Please let me know your thoughts.

I get the above hard top model as a lease (and ultimately will probably lease to buy). I buy the soft top separately and install it by next summer. After that, I can either sell the hard top or keep it, depending on how I feel about it at that time.

Thoughts?

Thanks again!

I would check the buyout price at the end of your lease, it can be higher than market value. If you do replace the hardtop with soft top I would hang on to the hardtop, by chance at the end of your lease you decide not to buy it you would be required to replace the hardtop. If your sure you were going to buy it at the end I would look into financing, usually the rates are better and you can do want you want to do with it. As for getting the soft top if you like the OEM one I would check local classifieds, I see new soft tops listed from people who got the dual top option but have no interest in the soft top.

Oh and welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum and good luck.

One other option: A hard top with a shade soft top. Mine came with that underneath the hardtop (rolled up where the freedom tops are). It should make it easy to remove the hard top and even put on the half doors that came too. I just don't have a good space for the hard top (yet).

No whining now...

Hey Guys - Found a Sahara that has the options I like and also in my price range. It comes with the 2.0–Liter I4 DOHC DI Turbo eTorque engine. Any thoughts on that?

That's a tough call. I have no experience with that engine. Its so new that it really doesn't have a longevity track record to measure. I have the 3.6 and am really happy with it. If I was purchasing newJL today, it would have the 3.6 in it. But that is your choice..

You mentioned that you were looking to lease it, if so then get the I-4 turbo. It has been over a year and the initial quality seems to be great.

One more question: If I get the hard top and later add a soft top, do I need to remove all the soft top hardware (not the top) in order to be able to put back the hard top or can I leave the hardware in place and swap out the soft top with the hard top?
