Hey Everyone..!

Hi all, I've been away but still lurking... HAHAHA
Both the TJ and the YJ are gone. And I have an H3 now. I really miss the Jeep crowd, and I don't get along too well with the "Hummer" clan...
I've never really fit into groups socially...
I won't classify ALL Hummer people in the "same group", but...
ANYWAY, I have always appreciated individuality, and building things the way you PERSONALLY want them, NOT the way everybody tells you how they want it...
HAHAHA, I have had SO much trouble with the thing...
It caught on fire under the dash.
The exhaust manifold cracked.
Both front axle seals started to leak in the same weekend.
The 4L60e is trashed because the shift servo piston decided to turn to powder.
The final straw, the "passlock" decided the thing was being stolen, AFTER the transmission went out, and has shut down the vehicle.
So, I sorta fell back into my Jeep roots again...
I decided to do what ANYONE NORMAL (Jeep people) with the same situation would do...
BUILD IT... That went over REALLY well with the Hummer crowd... LOL
"Just sell it and buy an Alpha, with a 5.3 V8..."
"That's a stupid idea"
"Who would do that to a Hummer"
Oh my God you should hear SOME of these people talk...
It's like General McArthur rose out of his grave, and drove their not even close to the real thing "Hummer".. LOL...
I'm not going to lie, as a Veteran there was a definite attraction to the H3 when I bought it. No doubt about it. And I figured my daughter could drive it in high school as it HAD a smaller engine in it (3.7-5 cylinder). And after a few months, I wanted her to buy it from me when she went off to college one day so I could buy another Jeep. If it was reliable.
Well...
I'm gutting the H3 now. I'm putting the crate engine from my Suburban in it, a 454 big block, the H3s came with a V8, so I'm doing it, along with the 4L80e transmission and the 14 bolt, corporate rear end.
I'm also using a Dana 44 front solid axle, and Dana 20, gear driven transfer case from my full size '74 Cherokee Chief that was a gift from my uncle in Minnesota. He's the original owner of the Cherokee, and was told a while back by his wife to park it because she lost 2 bags of groceries out the back... LOL
So, I wanted to post a big "HEY YA'LL..!" here first to fill everybody in.
I've missed the hell out of the Zombie and Cheap Mods posts...
AND WHY THE HELL DON'T THESE HUMMER PEOPLE WAVE TO EACH OTHER..?

Hi! Welcome back. I came close to getting an H3 but could not find a good example when I was in the market, and got the JKUR.

I had an H1 back in 2000 - it was a great truck and I found the community VERY supportive... most folks wrenched on their own vehicles and the How-To articles and writeups were awesome. Then GM bought HUMMER from AM General... then the H2 came out and the community changed dramatically as H2s were bought as status symbols and most never saw unpaved surfaces... By the time the H3 came out the platform was maligned, QC issues in production had come up quite a bit, and GM was poised to start culling marques within it's collective. Hummer got the axe. IMHO, H3 never really got a fair shot - it is a great platform and could have been something awesome, but time was not on its side.

My $.02

FWIW - I could NEVER again buy my H1 back for what I sold it for in 2004. :-(
(But I did replace it with a TJ Rubicon... great rig)

Hi guys...
Thanks for the welcomes.
I agree with you 100 percent Tarditi, the H3 was going to move away from the stereotypical "Huge" movement, but poor planning and the race to compete with the FJ, I feel, aided to it's demise. It never had a chance to meet it's full potential until the Alpha came out which was just too little too late. Those who have them made a correct choice to wait for the Alpha.
I will wear my mistake like a badge and own it. But I'll build the hell out of it in the meantime.. LOL..!

Here's the Donor Vehicle...
A running, driving, perfectly fine, '93 Suburban. It's a 2 wheel drive, 3 quarter ton. The rear end is a Posi, 14 bolt corporate. And I'll be adding disc brakes, new axles, and a gear set, so there will be a full write up here. The trans. is the 4L80e. The engine is a 454 (7.4 for you younger guys). I know a well built small block is a smarter, and much easier choice, but I grew up in a time where I fell in love with the big block.
I always wanted to do a big block in my little red YJ (I've posted that one here before). That was on 35's, but then the family came along, with court (and the "X") and a new Fiancee, a dog, and the gear just didn't fit with everything that needed oxygen. So I bought the H3.
These are the wheels I got for that Wrangler (no, I don't like the tires either, 325/60/18, they were put on by a previous owner... puke), I have to send them off to a specialty machine shop and have them stripped, re-drilled, and reinforced. I was going to have to do that for the wrangler also, and it's not cheap to do, but I saw a set of these (They're 18x9 inch "HELO" wheels) that were powdered satin black with the raised spot at the end of the spokes machined, and I wanted them.
My front solid axle for this thing is from my old '74 Cherokee Chief, it's a Dana 44 that I'll be doing a full write up on, from pulling it out of the woods up at uncle Jimmy's, and the drive home, stripping, and Moser axles (with the 8 lug bolt pattern to match the rear), a locker, and ring set going in, along with the mock up, and final assembly (I know you've all seen it before, so I'll keep it short... LOL)
I'm going to be adding the Dana 20 transfer case from the 'Ol Cheif as well, and I know there are much better choices to use, but it's gear driven, and much stronger than the GM (we want to be a hummer when we grow up) unit that's under the H3 currently.
That's where I'm at. The 3.7 is ready to pull out right now, and the trans and rear end are coming out this week with it, then I'll be driving up to Minnesota to get the Chief... In 2 wheel fashion, does that make me a looser with 8 lug wheels on the back, and factory H3 junk on the front..?
I'll just plasti dip all of them, only the real builders will laugh at me...
AH HAHAHA..! I'll post pics of that junk for sure..! LOL.

Hi, is there any reason we need to know about the irresponsible choice you made to get rid of a jeep for a H3.
Don't worry we will look after you until you send your daughter off to college and welcome you back when you get your next jeep.LOL
