How I became a Jeeper.

By misfortune and without all the details, in May of 2017 I was on my Motorcycle and was hit head on by a driver of a Nissan.

From that, I was injured with both wrists crushed and broken in several places requiring many pins, plates and screws to repair, plus many, many weeks of rehab. I also had a broken back which from that, the Doctor said I would never walk again. Well, after 3 1/2 months in a rehab center and many more days at home leaning to walk again that was proven wrong. They did say because of my injuries I would never ride a Motorcycle again. That was also proven wrong as I purchased another Motorcycle on January 20, 2018. With those injuries I also had several broken ribs, cuts to the bone on my legs and black and blue throughout most of my body. Thankfully I was wearing a helmet, boots and gloves so things could have been a lot worse.

Now, back to how I became a Jeeper, while I was lying in bed, most of the time I thought of ways to keep my outdoor riding experiences without using 2 wheels. In the 70s I had a Ford Bronco as well as an International Scout. Both had tops that could be removed and as I wanted a jeep with a soft top that was much easier to remove, it just never happened. My first choice for what I wanted today was a Jeep so my research started.

From reading this Forum as well as researching the Jeep website I decided I wanted a 2 door, soft top Jeep with 3.73 gears, limited slip, air, automatic so my wife could drive it and a color that wouldn’t show the Florida dust, dirt, sand and grime as much when dirty.

I had plenty of time to search many Dealers for my ideal dream Jeep. By August I was able to drive again so I set out for finding the perfect Jeep for me. Luckily I found a 2017 Sport S in Tallahassee, FL. I am so in love with this thing I even sold my F150 Super Crew truck because I wasn’t driving it anymore.

As I have lurked here for months reading and reading and I felt it was time for me to join up and participate in the many discussions you all have going on here. I have learned a lot from here and I know if it had not been for this forum I may have made the wrong choice for buying my Jeep. For that, I thank you all for your input and knowledge.
Marty

Welcome. Damn all I did was open my wallet!

I had a '12 HD ElectraGlide and had to lay it down to keep from being in a shite sandwich when a JO tried to go from 40 to 3 to turn into a carwash. Nothing like your situation, but glad you were able to overcome the docs prognosis. Sometimes I wonder about them.

While I was waiting for the insurance settlement, a friend of our was badly injured as a car pulled in front of him crossing the road. He t-boned it and flew through his windshield and the side window of the minivan. He was old skool and was not wearing a helmet. It was a block down from where I had my accident. I didn't have a doc tell me I would never ride again. I had my wife, she told me that she will not be getting on a bike again. I was lucky enough to talk her into getting a trike though.

So welcome again, and get ready to Just Empty Every Pocket!

That's pretty crazy. Lucky to be alive! Where I live the drivers are terrible, that's what stopped me from getting a bike.

On a brighter note, welcome to the forum! WF is a great place with lots of great people. Let us know if you have any questions!
