How many people do you think buy a Wrangler just for the looks, image...

But have no intention of going off road?

-- the brand new Consumer report really knocks the Wrangler. Should I place much credence in this? be objective.

It really depends on what YOUR needs are. If you need a commuter car, then a Jeep isn't for you. If you don't mind a loud, rough ride, poor gas mileage, low power, but enjoy exploring and not being hindered by the elements then it may be for you. Consumer reports and others put the jeep in the same category as "cross overs" and "suvs" when it really is in a niche category. It won't ride as nice as any other suv, it won't have as many options, it'll be loud, but there are some really heavy duty parts on there such as the 2 sspeed transfer case, solid axles, the option of factory lockers, etc.

Also I don't mean to be condescending to people that buy them for solely commuting, they are still enjoying their vehicle.

Welcome to the forum!

Consumer reports are the same as movie reviews. They are opinions. Most people don't agree with 95% of those either.

Test drive a Jeep and see if you like how it drives. If you buy one, do what you want with it. Make it YOUR JEEP. If you rely on other people's opinions to decide what your life will be, read a couple more consumer reports written by Honda Civic and Toyota Carolla drivers who don't know what a Jeep is or why it is the way it is. Then regret it for the rest of your because you let someone you've never met influence your choice of what to drive.

Welcome! As my DD, mine will do a ton of commuting for sure. Probably not a lot of off-road at all, because of my work schedule. It just feels right to me. Also, I'll never bottom out on the way to my favorite shooting range down in the sticks in southern Indiana.

I've had mine since October last year and haven't even gone off road yet - mostly use it for personal use and visiting clients for work use. It does get a lot of (good) comments and head turns though.
