I crashed in to this...

TLDR; I hadn't been in an accident in over 20 years... Then within 13 days I was hit in two different and serious accidents. Both accidents were the other driver's faults. Both were total losses.

People laugh lately at the fortune/misfortune I've had the last few months. It's a wicked story. Today marks 2 months since I bought my very first Jeep. And it was destroyed just five days later in a high-speed T-bone...

But let me start 13 days earlier in a RAV4. Stop and go traffic; I stopped with traffic; the driver behind me was working a crafts project and dropped a pair of scissors on the floor and picked them up instead of stopping. She sandwiched me in to the SUV in front of me with enough force to cause injuries in their vehicle. I was fine. RAV4...

I'd wanted a Jeep since I was 12, maybe earlier. A certified-used manual DCR 2012 JKU Sport hard top popped up at D'Ambrosio in Downingtown, PA. The salesman there was super cool (Jim Balch, shout out). Nine days after my RAV4 was totaled, I bought that first Jeep...

I got about 300 miles in the Jeep in those 5 days. I was on the way home from picking up an 8th wedding anniversary card when I got T-boned. I was at a red. It turned green. I checked left; checked right; traffic was respectively stopped. I started through the intersection. My window was open and I heard the chirp of a horn. I looked left in time to see a Ford sedan had swerved around the stopped traffic and was coming straight at my door. There were enough milliseconds for two thoughts. 1) "WTF? His red!" 2) "Again?" ... Then Screech+Boom. I was hit square on the driver side - his bumper crushed in to the frame immediately below me and his hood and grill punched in both driver side doors. It launched and spun the jeep. I walked away. Jeep...

The crash was so soon after purchase that the registration still had to work its way through, and insurance couldn't cut a check until it had the title. While I waited I thought about a lot of vehicles but ultimately came back to wanting another JKU. Unfortunately, the deal I scored was the best price in the country at the time and I had to look as far as 1200 miles to come close couch:

Finally, another certified arrived at D'Ambrosio, but it was a Rubicon leather heated seats, the works and flawless. At the time I wished I hadn't even seen it - there was no way I was going to be able to go from RAV4 to JKU Sport to JKUR with all the trimmings... Right?

Now? Hell yes!

I neglected to say in my intro how much I've used and appreciated this forum. Thank you to everyone who puts in so much effort and provides quality advise. I've already installed a backup cam, reclined the rear seats, put in a 2"/1" leveling kit, rancho shocks, and have 285/75R17 Toyos arriving tomorrow. The info on this board (and the pics and vids) is invaluable.

I was just reading through the build threads last night and realizing I gotta get that started. I didn't take pics of the first round of installs but I'll take before and afters on the Toyos and show the mount and products used from the cam.

I'm a newb, no wonder the dude T-boned me.

That's a great story! Not surprisingly, many members have unique stories that they have had with their Wranglers, but yours is exceptional. Welcome and don't forget The Wave!

And that has made all the difference.
