I don't know what I don't know!

First, greetings to all inhabitants.

I have been getting increasingly interested in Jeeps as of late, and am contemplating purchasing one sometime next year. Some of the things I don't know:

- the various "trim" levels. Sahara, Rubicon, X.... Trying to discern the difference, although I can tell the Rubicon looks pretty bad-a**.
- should I get the Unlimited or the traditional (i.e. shorter wheelbase) model? We still have 3 kids living at home, so the Unlimited seems to have the edge on practicality.
- pretty much everything else

At any rate, I look forward to wading in and getting even more confused.

Such hard questions to ask because the answer really is a "it depends" answer. I personally don't like any of the trims higher than a Sport because I am kind of a minimalist in terms of how Jeeps go. I have a 2 door 2012 as well and I absolutely love it.

That said, if you're planning on driving your kids around and going on road trips and such, a four door with a little higher trim might be nice. If you ever plan on doing some trail riding, the Rubicon is best equipped if you never plan on modifying anything, but if you get bitten by the mod bug like 99% of us on here then it won't matter what trim you have because you'll be doing some aftermarket work

Not sure what your budget is, but I would strongly recommend anything 2012+ simply due to the engine and performance upgrades that Jeep added in, but the Wranglers older than that are still capable vehicles as well.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!
