Jeep virgin

Hello. I've wanted a wrangler for years but everyone I know (non-jeep owners) has told me to stay away...too many mechanical problems.

1) I will not be doin any of my own maintenance and am afraid a wrangler will cost a small fortune in repairs. true?
2) this will be my daily driver and I will use it on the interstate; will I totally regret getting a 4 cyl? I will only consider a manual trans. I will never use the car for off road.

Any ladies out there? I'm barely 5'2...will it be a pain in the ass getting in &out?

Ill be getting out of a manual Honda prelude That's been abs fabulous: fun, hot, easy and inexpensive to maintain....
Any and all tips/ suggestions are appreciated!

I've been looking at this for a few weeks:

2006 Jeep Wrangler - Call (985) 641-9595 - Slidell, LA - Lakeshore Chrysler Dodge Jeep

Welcome to WF!

1. No.

2. Most people would advise against the 4. In reality it's not the much more fuel efficient. If economy is a big concern you will not be happy with a wrangler.

I can assure you that they are so much fun to drive and own that you really won't care about mpg's.

Welcome to the Forum

I'm 5'2" and have no issues with getting in and out of my Jeep.
Owning a Jeep is no more expensive to maintain than anything else on the road. The people who are telling you to stay away have obviously never driven one. It's not about the power or the mileage, it's about the way driving a Wrangler makes you feel. Go give one a test drive and see for yourself.

Any time you switch from 2WD to 4WD there WILL be more maintainence costs, no doubt. Going from a Honda to a Jeep will increase these same costs even more. Honda being the LEAST cost for maintenance and best for reliability and Jeep being near the bottom on both scales.

Your MPGs will be MISERABLE compared to your Honda. Your acceleration will also be miserable when compared to your Honda.

You are comparing apples to oranges here, but you are trading in an apple FOR an orange.

I own a 4 cyl and always defend it as being just as good as a 6. EXCEPT in the case of interstate driving. I can tell you that you will not be happy with the 4 under the circumstances you describe. Wait for a 6. As for the "I'll never go offroad" , get the Jeep run around topless for awhile and see if the ability it has doesn't call to you. lol It's more expensive to drive BUT well worth it. Remember you meet the nicest people in a Jeep.
