Jeepless in Illinois

Sad, but true, no Jeep...yet! Call it a mid-life crisis, but it's time!

So, I'm trying to figure out where to/how to buy a Jeep. I (generally) know what I want. Craigslist? USAA car buying? Jeep forums?

Any advice welcome. Thanks!

I'm curious to hear what everyone says. I'm in the same boat. Good luck!

I would say it depends (especially if you're dealer biased).

If you have some pretty good knowledge then Craigslist it. If not then do a TON of research on what to look for and still Craigslist it.

If not interested in researching or have very little knowledge then go to a dealer (I'm dealer biased LOL).

I know some people get the itch, but I've never been one to have a new car. Not a single impulse or interest in buying a brand new vehicle straight off the lot. That and I'm Dealer Biased

I didn't want the stress of owning brand new until I saw the lifetime engine warranty and the $600 tire assistance program, free car washes every week and free maintenance. Got a great interest rate and affordable pmts. All good incentives and takes the stress and worry out of potentially buying someone else's problem. My 2cents. Good luck.

Thanks for the input! Rhino, we used to be thrifty, used cars were the way to go. But then the low financing started and the lure of warranty and not inheriting problems was strong. But on a Jeep? That I'm going to bang up? I'm torn. Locruid, it depends on the dealer

I'm doing research and my Dad and brother are Jeepers, just not around here. I went to our local dealer and talked to a cool woman [I'm one too ] who gave me a lot of advice and an intro to a local Jeep club. She told me to be ready to spend $5K on a lift package.

So, here's the deal, there are two colors I want and neither is in production (Detonator Yellow or Gecko Green). I'm limited to used (obviously). So do I look for one with a lift package on it already? Or does that mean someone has already banged it up.

I want:
Detonator Yellow or Gecko Green
4 door as I have two Boy Scouts and we go camping. A lot.
Manual trans
3 pc hard top, it's either 10 below or 80 in January where I live.
Cloth seats, no leather
Max tow package (see Scout camping above)
So that means I need the 3.73 rear axle...can that be changed or do I need that factory?

Here's the Jeep I want if it has what I need:

2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport

I talked to this guy and need to call back with another list of questions compliments of the menfolk. The owner bought it, did one beginner course and said "it's not for me, I like my cars clean." !?!?!? Anyway, it is apparently in really good shape due to strictly highway miles.
