Sooo I'm a computer programmer for the Air Force. I've never really done much in the way of working on vehicles except for maybe replacing a radiator, changing tires, and replacing shocks. My dad used to bring the family out in his '72 Bronco to go offroading and I used to own a 4runner (that I had to replace the shocks and radiator after slight mishap >.<). Currently I've sold the 4runner and own a Ford Mustang GT. I am planning on picking up a deployment sometime in the future and my wife fully supports me finally getting a Jeep Wrangler when I return. I've been waiting until the Mustang was paid off and it's finally time!
I've always had huge plans in my head on what to do with a Jeep from everything my dad always said about his Bronco. However, he was very technical savvy and I'm more digital savvy. Hopefully reading on what everyone is doing to their Jeep and problems/fixes they've found I can learn.
What I'm most interested in is an automatic '07-'13 Jeep 4dr Wrangler used at lowest cost with an engine in good condition. I want to rip out the interior, get the spray on bed lining throughout the interior (spray out mud) and bottom (snow/salt). Put in some water resistant/proof front seats, and install a roll bar. Also I don't care for shiny paint so any dings/scratches/dents I could care less about on a used Wrangler. I plan on primering and possibly putting on a matte paint I can just touchup with touchup spray point if I scrape at anything. After all that is done then I'll worry about replacing parts. My dad's been working on his bronco for so long that some of the floor and bottom has a touch of rust from never getting it rhino lined or Line-x'd and I'd like to prevent that early on.
My apologies for anything that sounded dumb like WTF would he even bother
. I'm very open to suggestions though
! At this point you're probably saying, "Well, we can't give you any suggestions without knowing your plans, dumbass!" aaand I hear you:
I've always had an extreme interest in rock crawling. All I know about it is get an automatic and I've watched lots of videos but I don't know the technical aspects. My Mustang is a manual, but I was told if you're having to use the e-brake between gassing then you're really just burning your clutch simulating an automatic.
TL;DR Dumbass new to Jeep world. What I do?
