just got a 97 wrangler in Alabama

today I brought home a black 97 wrangler. It as a few flaws and its my first jeep! It has a wiring problem, which is draining a full battery in about 20 minutes of driving...which could be something as simple as a bad alt., it also has bad zip out doors. ITs powered by a 4 cylinder and still has the stock tires and wheels on it....hopefully I can hang around enough to figure out all about my new found friend...and maybe do some updates and have a blast with it
have a good one

Those are not flaws....they are excuses to get wrenching. Welcome to WF. Use the search function and you can find about any problem that has occured with at least 2-3 different answers

thanks tarheel.
question?
what are the differences in TJ's, YJ's and JK's? I have a 4 cylinder, 5 speed, so I'm guessing one of those abrev's tells that my wrangler is a 4 cylinder/manual correct?
thanks in advance.

Jeeps are given model nomenclature. CJs were 50's through 85 (?). YJs were next from 86 (?) to 95. No 96 model. TJs were 97 through 06. JKs are 07 and 08. TJs have a 2.5L 4cyl or a 4.0L 6 cyl. I am sure someone will give you more specific info...this is just off the top of my head

Wasn't sure about the square years. But I am pretty sure there was no 96 model during the switch from YJ to TJ

thanks for the info guys!

I am really looking forward to having some great fun with this 97, it still has great paint, and for the most part is in great shape...I'll be lurking around and reading all I can...
have a great day, I'm suffering from some of the outer feeder bands of hurricane Gustava currently and am just able to surf as power is in and out today!
