Long time jeeper, new to forums. Need advice on ac and other issues

All,
This is my second jeep. 98 Tj that I just did a frame up restoration. Dropped in a 4.6 stroker and aftermarket ac. Runs like crazy but working out a few glitches. The first is with the ac. System is charged. High and low pressure switches are working as published but for some reason the only time the system works is when I ground the wires that connect to the low pressure switch. I discovered this when I stuck a test light into the terminal looking for voltage. I attempted to bypass the switch with a jumper but it won't activate the compressor without a ground. That said, any ideas??? Bad ground? What does the computer have to do with the system? I have traced the wires to the computer, fuse, relay. All have good continuity. Any help would be appreciated. I will save my oil pan, rear main issues for a later post!
