Looking and some questions

Hey guys! my name is Mike, i work for a subaru performance parts manufacturer in Minneapolis called GrimmSpeed. My first car was a 94 cherokee sport. I absolutely loved the beast but i eventually ran it to the ground. Since then i've had two subaru's, my most recent was a 2002 wrx wagon that had endless amounts of work done to it. After the motor going out for the 3rd time i've decided to call it quits and start looking for a wrangler. I've always wanted one so i thought now's the time.

My questions:

I'd prefer the 4.0 for reliability and a little more power but if i settled for the 4 cyl would i be disappointed? Is the reliability of the 4cyl as good as the 4.0? anything i should look out for?

Manual vs auto? My first jeep was an auto and i had no problems with it but after being in the car scene for a while i think i would prefer the manual. How does the manual hold up? any common issues?

Also if anyone knows of any nice rust free jeeps for sale (under $8000) let me know! I wouldn't mind one with a small lift and some wheels/tires but this will be my daily driver so nothing to crazy.

Thanks!

Mike

From my experience of owning/selling/redoing over 40 jeeps, stay away from the 4 cylinder. They are complete turds, terrible mileage, and reliability isnt too much to brag about either. I have had 5 of them in the last 2 years with rods blown out of side of the block. 4.0 all the way

Agreed. I wish mine would blow up so I'd be forced to get rid of the 2.5

It will mainly be a daily driver but i've always been active in some type of motor sports so i could definitely see my self getting into some light off roading in the future.

Welcome to the Forum

Auto or manual is a long standing debate. I miss having a standard until I have to deal with traffic. I like having the auto when on the trail. It makes stalling one less thing to worry about. They are both good and you just have to decide what your preference is.

Thanks guys! I actually just signed some paper work for a 2000 cherokee sport. It's not a wrangler but i'm very happy with the decision.
