Must be the "Mid Life Crisis" thing

Hey all, like many, Jeeps and me have been in a love hate relationship for a long time. And I guess as we got older and had families we/I found a CJ5 with no back seat doesn't really work well for a family vehicle.

After three Jeeps I left the scene and moved on to more "practical" vehicles.
But times change, the kids are gone, and I guess the "Mid life Crisis" has hit.

And I blame the wifey for it. We now have new kids. The Mutts. Sargent, my German Shepherd, and Elijah, her Black Lab, or as I refer to him, the Black Bassturd.

Well as we married males know you have to keep momma happy. In my case it's been providing among other things mom/mutt's transportation. Her selections for doggie transport have been so to say off the wall. No, not "normal" cars, it's been things like a couple of ZR2 Blazers, and the latest was a Z71 FOUR DOOR Colorado, and of course they were the loaded models.

Me I drove demos, and got the hand me downs when she decided she wanted something else. Well last week she decided again.
I never say much about what she wants, heck PA winters where we have a place get some bad winters, so 4WD is a must, and I like vehicles with frames under them. Well I retired at 50 and bought a second place in FL.

OK she wants a new vehicle. Whole time she's talking Corolla for the gas mileage. Me I'm cringing at what the mutts will end up making my next vehicle look like. Anyhow we go to the Toyota dealer to look at new cars. She's looking at these econo boxes, when she suddenly stops.
And makes a bee line to the used cars. WTH!!!!!!

She's never had a used car since we've been married, and she's headed to the lot like she just won the lottery. There on the front row sits a 79 Black Sahara. She doesn't open a door, lift the hood, look underneath, doesn't even kick the tires. Nope, just goes "I want it!"

Ummmm, "Honey it's a Jeep, and worse it's a USED JEEP!" Might as well talked to the ground. No amount of horror stories I could come up with would sway her.

Well not even a week has gone by. I've spent that week going over the Sahara top to bottom, major tune up, buffed/waxed, de-greased the undercarriage, check all the suspension/brakes, fixed a bunch of piddly stuff, removed the rag top, bought a slew of new parts, and manuals and worn myself out. On "breaks" I've been explaining to her what it is to own a Jeep. And first thing I taught her was "THE WAVE".

And I've created a monster. Yesterday the "Quadratec" catalog showed up.

Dear Lord, she's been going through it.

Already on the list is Bikini top, rear cargo floor mat (for the mutts).
And she's noticed(?) the pictures of some of the Jeeps in the catalog.
Here we go! Lights, bigger tires and wheels, bumpers, lifts, stuff she has no idea what it does but thinks it would look good on her toy.

Oh God help me! Her idea of off road is parking in the yard, yet she's wants things just to make her toy look tough. "What's that?" "It's a winch." "What's if for?" "umm, in case you get stuck, you use it to pull yourself out with." "I WANT ONE!"

All last night "we" looked at the catalog, needless to say I'm spending more of stuff then I paid for the Sahara. Somebody shoot me!

Nah. She's happy and that's all that matters. Me, I can't wait to get this hand me down when she's done with it.
I'M BAAAAAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!!

Back in the addiction.

Brad

Haha welcome back and great Sunday story. As others have said "hide the checkbook from this woman".

Your dogs will get to where they need to go but now they will all be covered in mud!

I'd be happy to get a shot of it, if it was sitting still long enough. Cripes, after finishing up on it last night I left it in the garage. I got up this morning hit the coffee maker and heard the garage door going up.

Yep she's out cruising in it.

And now I'm dreading the stuff to come. I can see it now, UPS shows, I'm installing parts, and she's going to be standing at the door tapping her foot.

"Are WE done yet" LOL!

Well it's official. When she finally came home, first words out of her mouth.

"Boy that's fun driving around with no roof or doors on!"

First order with Quadratec has been placed.

Inkslngr, Cool, let me know of some places in the area where I can take her and show her what a Jeep is ACTUALLY for.

Gotta get her out of the Mall Crawler view, and show her what all this stuff she wants is used for. On second thought that may be a bad idea. She may end up wanting more stuff.

Least though now she's letting me alone with the redo's of the back yard.

Oh well spend it on the yard or the Jeep. Tough choice.

And she's already got the "Where the heck is my order at blues."
Order #1 placed Saturday, and she's already got stuff lined up for order #2, and is whining cause the first one hasn't shown up yet.

OK, I have to admit it. I'm having a blast too. Been too long not having a Jeep around, and ordering goodies is fun.

Best of luck, hopefully she will at least take you on rides every once and a while, even if it is just so you can diagnose an issue she may be having.

Yeah I have dyslexia it appears, it's a 97 not a 79. DUH!

As for the Shelby, another long gone stupid move. Only one I don't regret loosing was the Lotus. What a piece of doo doo. Made a Jeep look like engineering perfection.

I will correct the boo boo on the year and get some shots today of almost before mods start.

I DID IT!!!! Snagged some shots of the ever elusive Jeep. Took some trickery.
While she was again reading the dang catalog I managed to receive permission to move the Jeep so I could haul out the grass seed and compost sacks.

Little did she know I had an ulterior motive and a camera.

To additionally lull her into a sense of security I reseeded and top dressed the grass, at the same time making like a spy and snapping pictures.

Managed 3 before she came out to "Supervise" my work. WHEW!!!!

Here they are in all their glory. Two 3/4 views and a close up of the newly redone flares.

Nice I'd ditch the door surrounds while the top is down and paint the headlight bezels black while you still have some black paint leftover from the flares...
