Finally joined the Forum. Is one a newby even if they are decidedly an oldie? The first Jeep trip I can recall was in 1952 or 53 with my folks in my father's 1947 2A. That trip had an unfortunate, lasting effect on my life-unshakeable addiction to both Jeeps and mountains (which go together rather well IMO).

I learned to drive at a young age (12) in that 2A and took my driver's test a couple years later in an FC150 that the 2A was traded in on and then proceeded to wheel the daylights out of the 150 until sidetracked by college. In 1969 I purchased a CJ 5 (titled as a 69 but actually a 68). Still have it and other than mostly bolt-on stuff (OD, Warn winch, 4bbl/headers, rear tank, etc), it remains near stock with 42k on the clock. In 1972 I purchased what has become my enduring hobby vehicle, a 55 CJ 3B. It took awhile, but the looks don't bother me in the least anymore and that extra 4.5" of hood space is cramed completely full-not much different than all the extra space under the hood of a new 3.6 Wrangler. The 3B remains the go-to vehicle for the rough stuff and I actually like driving it more than the way more civilized Wrangler, but maybe the 450 ponys under the hood have something to do with that. There is not much anything left that was stock in the 3B.

The Wrangler Rubicon arrived January 2012 and other than an electical connector in the harness that about drove both the dealer and the spouse and I nuts, we love it. For an off-the-shelf vehicle and a pretty big one at that, just impressive where it will go. Just don't put it on a hoist and look at the undercarriage Lift kit will be under it by next spring. It IS and WILL remain the daily driver so there are no plans to get carried away with it.

1947 CJ 2A, 1949 CJ 3A, 1955 CJ 3B, 1968 CJ 5, 2012 JKUR
