New From NC

Hey everyone!

Figured I'd introduce myself. My name is Jim and my fiance and I just purchased her 2012 Wrangler Sahara today with only 19,400 miles. She's been wanting one of these for the last year, and with her Sonata depreciating by the hour it seems we decided to start looking for real and pulled the trigger on this one today. The previous owner did a few things to this one, Gibson Exhaust, K&N filter, and some aftermarket shocks that look like Rancho 7000's. The exhaust makes it sound similar to a 350z. He/she also had some 'Foose' stickers on the sides and spare tire cover. I guess they wanted it to look like a custom Jeep. I've already gone ahead and removed those. I'm working on talking her into letting me remove the billet grill inserts next. I want to get some new smoked lenses to replace the ones on there now that are faded, tint the windows, and look into some LED headlights here in the short term before diving into a lift, wheels, tires, and bumpers.

As for me I've been modifying vehicles since I could drive but am new to Jeeps. I've always liked the Wrangler's and am looking forward to having some fun with this one. I drive a 2014 Tacoma TRD Off-Road with some mods - 2 inch lift from the TRD Baja edition with an Icon AAL in the rear, BFG AT KO2 tires, some TRD Pro cosmetic parts, TRD faux-beadlock rims, and some other odds and ends.

Now for the pics

Don't mind the over spray from the dealership, already removed that

And one of my truck too

Thanks for looking!

Welcome from Charlotte! Those could be Bilstein shocks as mine look exactly the same except I have their logo on them.

Nice looking Jeep! Is she going to lift it with bigger tires?

Welcome. That 6th picture looks like your front breather tube has become disconnected? You can see how the rear is connected to the axle in the 5th pic.

Thanks guys,

I'll check to see if that hose needs connected. I was under the assumption it was a drain for something at first.

I was thinking the shocks could be Bilstein's too, but after talking to a member on another Jeep forum he was fairly certain they were the Rancho's but no one ever bothered to put the stickers on. I've yet to crawl under there and look for numbers.

On the bright side, got the billet grill inserts out tonight. Whoever installed them half-assed it. Have a few areas missing paint.

Happened to see the foose spare tire cover on Craigslist. I think I've seen your Jeep before, because I've seen that tire cover.

Yep make sure it's attached. That's definitely the front breather tube. Don't drive through any mud or water etc until it's reconnected.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

LKWJeeper - Yeah I put it up the other night. Not really sure what those go for second hand so I kinda based my price off new. We'll see what happens.

ESP - You were right, that was the breather tube. I've re-attached it for now, but the hose is stretched at it's limits and with any type of flexing will surely just come off so I'll need to extend it.

While I was under there I also noticed some oil collecting on the steering stabilizer and boot. I looked closer and noticed what looks like some oil seepage on the under side of the lower rad hose, but there's no where clear that it's coming from and the front of the motor is clean and dry. Most of the oil was on the stabilizer shock or in that general area. Could only trouble shoot so far at midnight with a flashlight. Also after some rain last night we noticed water on the passenger floorboard under the carpet today when we went to put in the new floormats. Add that to the list. Fortunately it still has the bumper to bumper warranty.

So lets try this again.

No longer in the '12 Sahara

Now we have a '15 Anvil Base with Soft Top.

Welcome from Davidson. NC. Both jeeps look sharp. Don't think l could make up my mind that quick on two different jeep purchases.

The '12 leaked. After the dealer replaced the seals it leaked worse, much worse. Then, after them having it at their dealer for 4 1/2 weeks attempting to fix it, replacing freedom tops, and so on they said they fixed it and gave it back to us. Got it home, ran the hose on it, still leaked, despite their 'extensive testing'. So, after some back and forth with the GM, he agreed to do a direct trade and take the '12 off our hands because quite frankly we were done with it.

I posted some of the trouble we were having here: https://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/cu...a-1208433.html

Since this is my fiance's vehicle, she like the soft top better since she can work it herself and we don't really have the room for storing a hard top effectively. Also, we both really liked Anvil from the get go, so the fact this one happened to be Anvil was a bonus.

Well I hate to hear about the troubles with the hard top. Jeeps and leaks tend to go together. I've never had one but I know others who have.

The soft top is extremely easy for one person. I've taken it on and off by myself all the time even with mine being a four door.
