New from San Diego, CA

Hello, new to forums but had a 90 YJ I bought bused in 2000. Had a lot of work done and was very happy with it. About two years ago I was flat towing it behind my 06 Tacoma the morning after a good weekend of crawling. The steering linkage went on the YJ and both rolled. Luckily we were only a couple miles from camp on the way home and still on the dirt road rather than the highway. I'll never flat tow again. The Jeep was totaled by the insurance co. I bought it back, took some valuable items and sold it to a friend. I've been out of Jeeping since. I plan on buying a new one about one year from now. I want to go with the 2011 or 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. That's about as far as I've got so far. Since I've been out a couple years I was hoping maybe I could get some advice on things I'd want to make sure to have included on a new vehicle purchase of one of them. Thank you and I look forward to a lot of good reading here.

Welcome to the Forum

If you're intending on buying a Rubi, you will have just about everything you need already. A lot depends on what you intend to do with it. Will it be a DD or strictly a trail rig?

Welcome, You will need to drive, read and ask to figure out what you want in the Jeep. I fretted for quite a while until I narrowed down. I started with what I must have and worked from there. Good luck! When you get ready to order Jack Powell in Escondidio will give you a no haggle TL/affiliate pricing.

It'll be my DD this time around. I'll probably take it down a notch from some of the rig busting trails I use to take. For the first couple years anyway. Since I'll eventually be tempted to take them type of trails again, I want to go ahead and have it capable from the beginning this time. The only thing I have left from my YJ is the winch.

Thanks for the pointers. I'm kind of glad I've got time to narrow it down. By the way, what is TL?

Tread Lightly is a group dedicated to promoting a sane off road lifestyle and practices. For a 3 year $60 membership you can get at minimum a new Jeep for 1% below dealer invoice. Some dealers, such as Jack Powell in Escondido have offered to sell at 2% below invoice through thier fleet/internet department.
