New guy from Bham, AL

I've been here about a week now lurking around and gathering data and I'm ready to move into something a bit smaller that what I'm driving hoefully with a larger fun factor. The ability to go offroad is desired and would be used occasionally at a farm, however, I would plan on 97% road use unless I pickup "another" hobby. I'm a middle aged family guy needs room for wife and kid as well as room for weekend gear. I've been breathing heavy for a JK since about 2007 and it is time to replace vehicles.

Currently driving a Dodge Quad Cab with hard bed cover to carry work gear so the hardtop will be needed for security while on the road overnight. My 6 foot bed is rarely packed to the extent that JK cargo room would hurt plus I'm already eyeing storage rack, etc for ocassional trips with alot of gear. I've convinced myself I can pare down and the JK will work well.

Bigger tires and lifts are not something I'm entertaining at the moment. The debate over model year with myself has been .... swung from wait on the 2012s, to get the new shiny 2011 and find the 2010 still out there I want just from gaining knowledge from the forum.

I have learned quite a bit thus far and look forward to the occasional post. For anyone who wants to advise, any thought on using a JK as a quasi work vehicle. My biggest concern would be overnight security, thus I will be getting the hardtop?

Another newbie with a long post. Thanks

Welcome! If you do get a soft top, leave the Jeep unlocked. Thieves tend to cut the tops, so people usually just leave the doors unlocked and take all the valuable stuff out

After close to two years I did it.

JKU sport w/ 24s package, max tow, 3.73 rear end, anti-spin diff, dual top group, u-connect

Bright White - conservative, boring perhaps but it allows but I like.
