New guy from Ohio

Well I've been looking at a jeep for a little wile now..and I guess I have a few question that I should probably ask. And the first biggest one is, is a wrangler right for me? (Kinda more of a personal question tho)

So a little bit about me..is I have always loved trucks/suvs. Anything that will throw mud up into the air...My dads always had a ford and I've just grown up in them. So me getting a Jeep is kinda an "eh" thing to do, since we were looking at getting a bronco. haha

But anyways...I'm 17, soon to be 18 here in like 2 months or so. I am a junior in high school, I'm on my schools varsity cross country team and I'm also varsity track. (I pole vault) As soon as I turned 16 I've always wanted a truck. To please my parents not wanting me to get something big I was looking at a ranger. But it was just TOO SMALL. So I convinced them to move up to a Dakota and even an F150/Ram 1500. but nothing ever happened with it...

But finally my car blew a head gasket. Yay thank God! I could finally get a truck right? wrong. My parents had a friend who fixed it is his backyard for 850 bucks total so I'm still stuck with my Ford Taurus.
So I fixed er up! But deep down I'm still a truck Guy. I mean a race cars cool and fast and all. But lets face it a truck is a 1000 times better.

But long storty short I've actually loved fixing up my car and its made me like to work on cars/trucks.

And right now in my car I get anywhere from 10 - 17 miles to the gallon. So I was just wondering how many of you get close to 16 MPG? Now its a truck/suv so I'm not bitching that much haha and is there anyway to get close to that?
(I drive less than 10 miles to and from school)

I was also wondering which years are easily worked on for a beginner and which years are the best and what are some common problems/ things i have to look out for when buying a wrangler?

Thanks for the help,
-Zack

PS: sorry for any typos I'm on my phone.
So again sorry if it doesn't make since in places cause its super hard to reread it on my droid..

Welcome Zack! There are many factors to MPG. JK, TJ, YJ, CJ? 6 or 4 cylinder? Lifted or stock? What size tires?

Just average speaking, when my TJ was stock I was getting around 16 on a 4 cylinder. Lifted with 32's, I was getting around 13-14 mpg. I don't exactly have the lightest foot either

Welcome To The Forum
It looks very clean. It doesn't really say what they are asking for it and unless I want to start getting calls from them by putting in my personal info, it won't tell me. I'm not a fan of the chrome but that is a matter of personal choice.

Welcome. Im new to the forum and from Ohio also. My $0.02 on jeeps is wrangler all the way. The 4.0 I-6 is a proven motor and pretty reliable. The 07 and newer have a v-6 and are supposedly more fuel efficient. I own an unlimited and it rides a little smoother than normal wheel base wranglers ive been in. But if you want a ride like a cadilac... buy a cadilac.
good luck!

Welcome to The Jeep World. I'm from Northridge, Ohio...Just north of Springfield. Jeep looks good, but I wouldn't want the 4 cylinder personally...but that is a personal preference!! Good Luck...\m/ \m/

I dont really mind the 4 cylinder, i wont be doing much other than daily driving 89% of the time.

But for 8K is that a steal or a deal? Or is it a little over priced?

And thanks for all the welcomes everyone!

The wrnglers really hold their value. I just looked up the blue book on my 06 unlimited and with my mileage and condition it is still close to $16k. I looked for jeeps for a year before buying and found that a typical TJ with around 100k miles can still go for $10k. I lucked out and got mine with 13k miles for 14k$. But there are plenty on the market so don't settle.

Keep in mind that you may gett addicted to wheelin and your Jeep may turn into a toy instead of your Daily driver one day. If (and when) that time comes I think you will want the extra torque and HP from the 4.0L I-6

Just my opinion. good luck. if you ever wanna go wheelin' let me know, im not too far from you!

IMO Keep looking. You can get pretty much whatever you want (except a rubi) within this budget if you don't mind the extra mileage.

Will do

And right now only being a junior in high school my jeep will a DD about 95% of the time, and it'll be my dads DD when im in college instead of his F250

But i have about 10K to get a jeep, and that also inclueds any money id need to repairs/upgrades/etc id need to do to it.

But i'll keep looking and keep an open mind.
So would you say that it being 8K is a little over priced?

Thanks
-Zack

im not saying its over priced but if you have 10k to work with i think you have some room to be selective. also, check out kentucky i found mine there and there seemed to be a surplus of them in the NOKY area. the wheels and chrome is not my style and i would definately go for the 4.0L. Being that you are used to a gas hog you shouldn't mind the 15mpg. also, you will probably find yourself immediately fighting the urge to do a lift or personalize your jeep in some way. i told myself i was gonna put 100k miles on mine then make it a toy and buy another vehicle. i wanted to leave it alone since it jis a DD. i couldnt wait.... just turned 50k and a 4" inch lift with some extras are going on this weekend.
