New guy from Virginia

Hi all,

I have been lurking here for a while now in search of info about the current generation JKU's. At first I was very hesitant due to consumer reports and others calling me crazy for wanting one of these. Luckily, I stumbled across this forum and read what the JKU is really like from people who actually own them.

What I've learned from you all so far is that as long as you understand and take care of the Jeep's maintenance needs, it will treat you well. I guess its more like a 1911 than a Glock. Requires a bit more work to maintain but there is nothing else quite like it. Use the right parts and tune them right, they will run and run...

The Jeep I've been after is a 2016 JKUR in Mojave Sand with 4.10's, hard top, and an auto transmission. It would be my daily driver and will see a bit of off roading here and there. I figure the 4.10's will be better for acceleration in the DC area traffic and will come in handy when I put 35" tires on it. Also, I want to get into some off roading eventually and figured I might as well get the one with the lockers and D44's already installed.

I've started searching for a JKUR in the Northern Virginia area. I tried truecar but that has not turned out too good since all the Jeeps on lots are pretty spec'd out with add ons. So far its been a tough search to find the right one.

Luckily I've had a couple of dealers within the last week offer to order one and may have mine ordered soon.

If you are a member of a credit union or USAA (or other orgs I may not know about) see if they have a car buying service (i.e. True Car). After buying a new car for my wife and a used JK for me, I will never bother buying a car any other way again. For the new car, I sat in front of my computer watching e-mails flow in from dealers all over NoVA making offers to me. In fact, when I didn't respond after a couple of days, two dealers sent lower offers. I was bargaining without even trying!

With my used JK, I found a pristine 2013 Certified Used for an unusually low price. I printed out the offer provided through True Car. When I went to the dealer to look at i, I was told that they made a mistake and listed the Jeep for sale, but never put it out on the lot. Meanwhile, their computer continued to automatically lower the price since it wasn't selling. When I told them i wanted it, they tried to tack on $2K for "reconditioning to certified condition." Since the True Car offer is guaranteed, I pulled out the paperwork and the negotiation ended. I got the Jeep for a great price and the whole process was VERY quick.

Good Luck!

Unfortunately my experiences with local dealers have not been so good. Hopefully Ted Britt works out.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I just wanted to say that I put my deposit down on my first JKUR this Sunday with my Wife at Koons Jeep in Vienna, Va. Thanks to Erica and Jason at Koons I have a 2016 Mojave Sand Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon on order that should be here in about 6 weeks.

I did not think this would work out but I cannot even begin to express how happy I am to have found the deal I did on this order and how happy I am with the service at Koons Jeep. They are a complete 180 from the other dealerships I've dealt with in Northern Virginia.

Welcome to the forum og! I'm actually in the market for something very similar. Glad you had a great experience. Now the wait begins right? Haha. Looking forward to seeing pics.

Buying services are the way to go!!! Used them twice now. Fantastic, granted the inventory on the lot comes into play but still easier.

I also got really lucky, I was looking at one specific new 2015 and contacted the dealer with my price, they said they would honor it. GREAT! I get there, apparently they had added options at the dealer like matching roof, leather and heated seats, etc... which weren't on the window sticker listed on the site.

I really liked it but didn't want to pay the price for stuff they added trying to sell the Jeep. Luck on my side they had that Jeep since March... 7 MONTHS. I left the dealer that day but they called me the next, "We'll do it.". I guess they realized there is a small market for people that want entirely yellow vehicles.
