Question New Jk... Did I make a mistake

Hello from Florida!

I have a 2013jk, but I may have made a mistake. You see, when we were at the dealership my wife and I struggled with whether to get an unlimited or not. We are thinking of starting a family and figured it would be easier to have the unlimited with car seats and strollers and such things that come with a baby

We opted for a two door. I have always loved the two doors and we figured It would be a while before we got pregnant. Famous last words. Turns out we were pregnant at the dealership, but just didn't know it!

So did we make a mistake? I'd love to hear from other parents who use a two or four door jeep and how it works with car seats etc. My wife is talking about trading it in already and taking the value hit . I'm willing, but not sure we need to.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to WF

Ummm....congrats and...ouch?

I can relate....I got married in July of 2012, I ordered my Wrangler in October of 2012, we are expecting our first in June of 2013. Yup...do the math...I can really relate. We didn't think it would happen as quick neither.

Well, the 4 door would have been easier...but people have made it work. You will probably want to ask your question or search around this forum.

There are a few threads about it here and there.

Good luck!

Congratz on both counts

Maybe drive the 2-door for a couple of years and then trade it in for a 4-door. 2-doors are a little tough working with a car seat in the back but it's totally up to you.
I went the totally other direction when I bought my rig. I was origionally thinking about a 2-door but my kids are all grown. I opted for a 4-door to haul more stuff and maybe the kids if they want to go on a trail run.

Welcome and congrats on everything! You can make the 2 door work for a few years. Wait til the diesels come out and trade it in.

Welcome, like "Beastmaster" I have an unlimited so that we can haul more stuff as my other half tends to pack the whole house for trips. Good luck with the 2 door, there's a lot to be said for the crawling capability of the 2 door simply due to the longer body of an unlimited can sometimes get you hung up on things that the 2 doors crawl right over.

Thanks everyone...other half still wants to trade it in but I don't think it will come to that. Our other car is a four door liberty...we should be good...

MrSig--we're in bradenton...

Well my husband and I both just bought 2 door jks and we have a toddler and it works just fine with the car seats. Just make sure to use the passenger side to get in and out of. You will fine. Congrats

Then you're good with the Liberty. I drove the family truckster for years so was glad to go from station wagging to JK. With the flip down back seat it carries plenty and the baby will have plenty of room in the back seat, although getting him/her in and out would be easier with the unlimited. Why take the trade hit now? Enjoy your JK now (they are more fun to drive IMHO than the 4drs) and better breakover angle. Then trade later if you need to.

I made the same mistake. I bought a 2011 two doors and I had problems fitting my family in the back! I had it for three month and I took it to the dealer. They got me a 4 doors no questions asked . Remember your jeep retain the value so if you are not sure about the two doors take it backs now that you can!!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but i wanted to complete the story here.

Wife won. I now own a '13 JKU. Have had it for several months. But, she did promise to let me mod it more. Time will tell...Didnt do too bad on the trade.

Funny thing is, same color, and no one in the family or neighborhood has noticed the two extra doors yet. Been 3 months!

Congrats, Twicklund. I'm brand new here and researching Jeeps and I have gone back and forth to decide what is best when towing little ones. I like the look of the 2 door, but the 4 door seems more practical, so I'll probably go that way as well. Thanks for sharing.

I dont have any kids yet, But we just bought a 2dr, well in progress, because we plan to have kids in about 6 years. At that time, we are trading in for a 4dr no questions asked.
