New Member - Could use some advice

Hi All,

I'm new to the community and am looking to buy my first Jeep. To be honest I feel a little overwhelmed with all of the options. There are so many different trim packages and variants. I want to buy a used Jeep as a weekend toy. I plan on driving it on the weekends and maybe 1 week day. I don't see myself doing much off roading, maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Originally, I set my budget at $10k, but it seems like you don't get much for that. I have found significantly more options when I raise the price to $15k. When I look at Auto Trader, it seems like a mid 90's Wrangler is only a couple of grand less that a mid 2000s. Is that right? Are these older Jeeps desirable or over priced? I would love any advice you have to offer on which years, trim, engines, etc you think are solid choices for a first timer. I plan on buying as soon as I find the right Jeep for me. Thanks in advance!

to the Forum..

At a price range of $15,000, or maybe less, you should be able to find a real nice TJ. I would look at years 1997 through 2004. Definitely get the 4.0 engine, with a Dana 44 rear Differential. Be really careful of rusted frames. When you find one, have a experienced Wrangler person look it over with you.

^^^I would also get some advice from the Members on this Forum.

1974 CJ5, 2003 TJ, 2013 2 door Black Rubicon, auto, with 4.10 ratio.

Thanks! Really appreciate the advice. Is there a particular trim you like over the others? One thing I wasn't sure of was whether or not I'd want the Sahara (I think it has gas shocks?) vs something with the performance suspension or the rubicon.
