New Member from EC Wisconsin...Potential JK Owner

Hello,

I currently own a 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk and it has taken me from MN to FL to to DE to KY and TX to Telluride and Moab up to Yellowknife and Fairbanks and back. It is my first automatic after 7 brand new manual transmission trucks, and my first SUV. I miss shifting. And I want to be able to negotiate more difficult trails. For those who have not tried nor seen in person a Trailhawk (I have much better tires on it than provided by Jeep), it is pretty capable. But, again, I miss shifting.

Since Jeep upped the towing capacity of the Wrangler and I want more off-road ability, I am looking at one. I'd not mind another Frontier king cab, but they took the 6spd away from them. Tacomas don't offer the 6spd in the Off-Road access cab. That leaves one option since the new ZR2 will be auto only.

Having built the vehicles online, I am down to the Winter, Rubicon and Hard Rock. I test drove a Sport yesterday with the gf and we both liked it. I miss sitting up high, as does she (went from an Aspen to a Cherokee Sport). My MPGs suck, averaging 17 so the fuel usage can only improve.

Here are my specs as built:

Winter $41,220
Tru-Lok 3.73
Hard top headliner
Trailer tow group
430N

Rubicon $42,050
Hard top headliner
Cold weather group
Trailer tow group
Connectivity group
Deep tint windows
Freedom top 3pc
430N
Alpine 9 speaker

Rubicon Hard Rock $42,315
Engine block heater
Hard top liner
Trailer tow group
Freedom top 3 pc
430N

No matter which one I choose, I'll sell the OEM tires right away and put on Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure LT265/70R17. I have ran them on multiple vehicles and have the best of luck with them.

I have to decide if I want to trade in my Jeep to essentially break even on what I owe (ordered it in 2014) and start over. I also don't know how much different the tech will be on the 2018, so maybe waiting is the best option. Anyway, this is where I am at. I look forward to reading.

Well....it looks like I'll be in the market for rock rails and maybe give RRO some $. Dealer offered me $16,000. He said he would sell it for $18,999. He wanted my lights left on it too. I would have more negative equity than I wanted, so I said no thanks. FYI...you cannot order a Rubicon Hard Rock any longer, they now have the Recon. Sticker as built is $44,060 and my cost would be $40,951 plus a $280 doc fee and taxes.

I am not willing to go from $19,000 in debt to $45,000 because I want to shift gears and off road on harder trails 2x a year. I'll wait until I purchase my house and then I'll just build my rig as I was planning on two months ago.

Thank you all for the help and tips. The money was not right, so I had to walk away...for now.

Maybe I'll see you on a trail in WC WI or NE MN this spring.
