New member from LI

Hi, my name is Tony and I am in the market for a new Wrangler. I will be using it as a daily driver, and also on trips to my summer home in PA., which include several miles of unpaved road. I curretly own an 08 Tundra for this purpose, but now with just my wife and I making the trip I could use a smaller vehicle. I welcome any advise you guys might have for me, as I am new to the Jeep world.
Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum. My only suggestion would be to get out there and test drive the different models. They are all great vehicles so it comes down to a matter of personal preferences and what comfort level you are looking for.

Welcome! Yep, I couldn't agree more. Go out and drive different models, and find the one that is best for you

whats your budget? are you looking for a stock new wrangler or one that has been lifted/tires etc...

Definitely try the models, also if you can ask the dealership if they are going to set up a confidence course in the near future and you might be able to drive the jeep on a constructed off road course.

I was hoping to get a base model for close to 20K. Is that possible?

Well it was an interesting day indeed. We went to the dealer this morning and drove a sport. They only had autos, and I was interested in a stick, so we talked about ordering an '11. MSRP with 2 tops, tow package, pwr windows, locks and a few other goodies was about 27k. Without too much talking he was ready to take 1k off that price, so I think I could have done better. After driving an automatic, I really felt the car was not too powerful, but I figured a 6spd would be better, and I would probably add a CAI as well. I was, however, very surprised to learn that the 3.8 V6 has only 2 valves per cyl. The salesman told me the drive train was slated to be updated in '13 or '14. I left the dealer a little disappointed. One of the things I like about purchasing a new vehicle is getting the latest and greatest technology, and I just felt this vehicle would be taking a step back wards from what we already have.

On the way home my wife suggested we stop in to the Toyota dealer. Two hours later we walked out the proud owners of a brand new '10 Prius. This will be our 4th vehicle for 2 drivers so I have to get rid of something. I am certainly going to keep my '08 Tundra, but one of the others will have to go. The most likely candidate is my 98 Camry, but it could be the '05 RAV4. Which ever one I decide to keep will most likely be replaced by a Wrangler when they update the engine. Thank you everyone for your advise, and see you guys in a couple of years.

After these 2 comments I HIGHLY suggest that you don't get a Wrangler. No offense to you but the Jeep never was nor should ever be the latest and greatest technology. And how in the world do you go from shopping for a wrangler to getting a Prius

I was shopping for a vehicle, and a Wrangler was on my short list. Like I said, I usually have 3 vehicles for 2 drivers, and replace 1 every 2 years or so. I thought the Wrangler would at least have OHC and 4 valves per cyl, hell, my 12 year old Camry has that. I'll be back in a couple of years and hopefully they offer a more modern engines, maybe even VVT. I bet you were pissed when they dropped the flathead 4, huh? I just think they should be in the 21st century for 25-30k. No offense.....

Ditto LOL @ going from looking at a Wrangler to Prettius. Talk about a change in vehicle necessity.

At least you thought the decision out logically for you.

As to the past Jeep heritage of it being simple vs complex:

If it works, just keep updating it until it doesn't work..

I have a 4WD Tundra that is lifted with 305/65/18 BFG AT KOs, which is a pretty good off road vehicle in itself, so the Jeep was not a necessity.

Yea, the Tundra is the best pickup I ever had. I love it. The Jeep will be on my short list next time too. I would like to see more power by then.
