Hey everyone!

I've been lurking around here for a while, so I figured I'd better just make an account. I've had my JK for about a year and a half now. I haven't done any modifications yet (other than trying to stop the dang soundbar/dome light from rattling), but I'm hoping to in the near future. Anyways, I'm looking forward to learning a thing or two!

Welcome, that's a nice looking 2 door! It's interesting you mentioned your sound bar / dome light rattle...mine makes a creaking sound, but only with the freedom panels out.

I'd like to know if your issue is similar, and what you have done to hopefully fix it.

Thank you! I don't know about the creaking noise regarding the freedom panels. I only have the soft top.

Mine was just a loud rattle/vibration when ever I was using the speakers at pretty much any volume. I took it to the dealer, they did something, supposedly. But it didn't help. Next, I filled the soundbar with polyfill as many people suggested. This helped some, but the dome light lens itself seemed to be the main source of the issue.

My "fix" ended up being two small strips I cut from a rubber gasket. I took off the light lens, put the rubber strips up where the edge of the lens would be, and replaced the lens back in its place (well, more wedged it back in). This seemed to eliminated most of the rattle (although if the rubber is cold, it still rattles some).

I love my Jeep, but I do like to joke with people that I think it was assembled on a Friday around 4:45

Thanks for the information tubajeep, I will try the dome light gasket fix, as that is where mine also seems to be coming from. Mine only does it with the Freedom panels off, when there is pressure from the wind due to the panels being removed.

I replaced my speakers, so I also have polyfill in my soundbar. However, I have still experienced the noise since the polyfill went in. I'll give the gasket a shot and see if I can tighten it up a bit.

I know what you mean by Friday around 4:45...I have owned many Jeeps over the years, and they all seem to have had their quirks...I guess perhaps it is because it is a vehicle that is put together in such a way that it is meant to come apart too i.e. doors, top, carpet, etc...

What part of WV are you located? I have been in Texas for 30 years, but I was born in Montgomery WV (near Charleston) and still have family in that area, as well as Beckley.

Oh nice! I'm from Putnam County, so other side of Charleston. I know a handful of people that went to Tech

I'd like to eventually upgrade the speakers in mine, but I want larger tires first. Still saving for that though...

I think you're right about the fact that Jeeps are meant to come apart possibly affecting other things. That, and the solid axles probably help loosen up interior pieces over time. Although, ride quality must have improved some over time. My great grandfather was riding in my JK a couple of months ago and said "I can't believe a Jeep rides this smooth." I imagine he rode in Jeeps while serving in Europe during WWII, and I know he had a surplus MB after the war.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

West Virginia is a beautiful state. I've been through your area many, many times on the way to see family during my lifetime, so I know exactly where Putnam County is located. My mom and dad both went to Tech in the early 70's, and my dad finished up his degree at WVU, so I also lived in Morgantown for a couple of years as a child.

I'm sure it is something very different for your great grandfather to ride in a JK, they certainly have come a long way over the years. I have had the opportunity to drive an original Willys that belongs to a friend's father, and I have owned a few YJ's over the years....the coil springs definitely make a nice difference from the original leaf set up.
