New member, full of questions

Hi guys, my name is Travis and im from manhattan kansas. I have been driving a 1999 toyota 4runner for quite some time now and I have done small things too it like a 3" lift... I enjoy my local ORV park and wanted to make it into a trail vehichle. But I have come to find... a JEEP would be a much better vehichle for me! I am a full time college student, and just want a daily driver/weekend toy.

I would like to either trade my 4runner for a jeep.. or sell it outright and find a jeep to buy.

Just a few questions to get me started. what year was the first year for the 4-link/coilover suspension?? I dont want leaf springs.

What are things I need to inspect and look for when buying a used jeep?

4 cyl manual, 4cyl auto, 6cyl manual, or 6cyl auto??

any other additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to becoming a member for the jeep community.
Thanks, Travis

Welcome

1997 + TJ style
6 cyl.
dana 44 rear end
I like manual but others like auto thats your choice

Look at the frame that would be the biggest to me everything else can be fixed .
If it got a lift see that it was done right .If it got 33 or bigger tires see what gears they are running .
when you find something post it in the proper form and you will get alot of help befor you buy it ....Gl

i would try to find one that has a dana 44 rear end in it. it depends on what you are going to use it for. wrangler X models are the base mods just remeber that when lookin online and what not. but does have A/C. if you can help it find one with a hard top, soft tops are cheaper and can be ordered and shipped much easier. as far as 4 or 6, go with a 6 u will be much happier.

one more thing if it has a soft top, check ALL the zippers all around and make sure they arent messed up. just little things that can get the price down for u

Welcome to the forum-one other thing you may want to consider- is do you want it already modified or a "stocker" that you build the way you want it? Or does that not matter 'cause you are going to mod it so much-that whatever you start with will look nothing like what finish with?

I would like it to be a little modified, doesnt really matter to me to be honest. It will end up being pretty extreem but having a small lift and wheels and tires just for looks for the time being would be nice
