new Member (Just learned the Jeep wave)

Hello friends, I am planning to purchase my very first Jeep next week, It will be a Black Sport Unlimited- 2015----25000 miles.

I just leaned the legendary Jeep wave already, to respect fellow Jeepers.

I am sure, this question has been asked before, but i couldnt find this anywhere so here it is...

"Should I buy the extended warranty for 150,000 miles for about $1900/ ?
(this covers only powertrain and i will have to pay $50 deductable for every visit)

What will be the major issue that may come up in the next 100,000 or 150,000 mile range, if the repair cost is almost same as about $ 2000 or so, then I am thinking of skipping it.

Thank you in advance for your answers, my new friends.

Congrats! Welcome to the club.

How mechanically inclined are you? If you can research and fix basic things like a dead alternator (mine died at 170k) then you shouldn't encounter many problems. At high mileage, I would expect major things would struggle such as transmission or internal engine issues. However, with proper maintenance being done on your Jeep, you shouldn't have trouble with any of that.

Mine has been properly maintained and is just rolling over 175k, and I haven't had any major problems. I have the classic oil weeping around engine seals like the oil pan, but it is manageable. And cheaper than 2k$ to fix. For 2k$, you're talking pretty major repairs and those are not terribly common, especially once you consider they would have to occur between 100k and 150k (good chance they would happen outside that range).

My opinion is don't get the extended warranty, and save that 2k somewhere if you are worried about a major repair, but I am also someone who could self-repair my Jeep if something critical went wrong at high mileage and would cost a lot of money.

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for that info Sharknado.... really appreciate your help in future as well, my new friend.

I am not mechanically inclined but like you said just incase if there is any major repair comes that would be around $2000/- and I can always shop around to get better deals, I agree the dealer extended warranty is a rip off., they just exploit the Peace of mind" deal...However if i ever buy the extended warranty, I will be praying for my Jeep to break down so that i could make use of the money that i already put in and on the other hand, the dealer will be praying not to have any breakdown on my Jeep. If i dont buy, me and the dealer would switch out praying!!

Thanks again bro.
