Exclamation New Member: TJ no compression 1st cylinder

Hey all,

Last week, my check engine light started flashing so I pulled over and my engine died before I parked. I had to start the car up once more and move it to another parking lot. It started, but it was extremely loud and the RPM's were exceptionally high.

I towed it to a AAA spot and they said that there is no compression in the 1st cylinder and that it will be $1,200 to diagnose the problem, and it could be up to $3k for an engine replacement.

This blew me away, especially because I just replaced the starter myself a couple of weeks ago after my Wrangler was stuck in 2.5 feet of water for about 3 hours.

Any suggestions on how to qualify if this is a good quote from the shop? Is this realistic? Might this issue be related to being stuck in the water?

I appreciate any help out there. Thanks everyone,

- J
