New Obsessed guy from NM

I bought my second YJ, third Jeep last year and it has since infected every other thought in my head. It’s a tired old 89’ with a tired old 4.2L. I bought a burned out donor 89’ and took all the good parts off. Swapped in a 2” lift, 4:56 gears, and some other odds and ends. Drove it for a few months on and off. It burned oil and had 1 good cylinder. Finally destroyed my transfer case, u joints, and rear yoke. Apparently the slip yoke over-extended and broke everything.

I had a good NP231 from the donor so I installed an SYE... and then it took off from there. “Well, if I have to order a new driveline then I may as well install a better lift!” So I ordered a 4” RE lift. Then I thought, “Those stock shackles look terrible” so I ordered boomerang shackles. Long story short, pretty much everything from the shackles down is brand new, including bushings, tie rods, bearings and seals, brakes, shocks, and so on.

Then I decided to pull the tranny to install the freshly rebuilt donor AX15. And since I had that out I may as well pull the motor and rebuild it. Well I got to looking for rebuild info and learned that I could put a 4.0 head on it. But instead I found a fresher 95’ 4.0 complete with harness that I can get for cheaper so I’m picking it up tomorrow. I’ve talked myself out of using my 4.2 crank and rods to stroke the 4.0 for now! I want to drive it before too long.

As it is now, I have primered the hardtop and doors from the donor after reinforcing the cracked panels on the doors and will be prepping it for paint soon. But, I think I want to build a cage before I send it off for paint.

Anyway, yeah... it’s become an obsession. I know I’m going to have a few questions when it comes to converting to a 4.0. Looking forward to picking everyone’s brains.
