New to Jeeps - old guy though

Hello everyone;

I bought a Jeep about 3 weeks ago, a 2004 Rubicon with the 4.0 L I6 and a 5 speed manual. Bought it from Carmax, probably paid too much but I don't care - it's done now.

This is my first Jeep - I've been riding motorcycles in the dirt for a long time though. Per Dr.'s orders I am no longer advised to lift more than 20 pounds so when I fall I can't pick up my bike - hence the Jeep.

When I test drove the Jeep the 4wd light on the dash didn't work and neither did the "axle lock" switch. Carmax diagnosed the problem as a bad PCM (Powertrain Control Module) - well not actually bad but the wrong one had been installed somehow - it was for a 2wd. I didn't know that there were such things as 2wd Wranglers. Carmax replaced the PCM and it all works now.

So I'm looking forward to learning about Jeeps and having fun with this one - I live in San Diego so there are a lot of places to drive it off the pavement. I also plan to use it for errands around home as it gets much better mileage than my F250 and it's easier to park. The F250 may find a semi-permanent home under my camper.

John (in sometimes sunny San Diego)
