Newbie from Virginia

Hey everybody. My name is Jeremiah. I own a 2006 Wrangler Unlimited. Soft top, 4 inch lift, 33in tires and a lot of other little things. I have grown up with Jeeps, working on them and playing in them, but for some reason I never thought to join a Jeep forum. I look forward to participating on this forum and want to thank everyone in advance for your help.

Fredericksburg is very close and I tend to be up in the Winchester area quite often. I used to be up there a lot more before they shut down half of the trails in the GWNF... Any of you fellow Virginian's know of any good, legal places to trail ride?

They shut down some of the trails that are located just off of route 33 that runs through the forest. However there are still plenty of other trails still open up there. Every couple of years they will shut some of the trails down to let them heal up.

They closed some of the good ones but a lot of other good ones are still open. I don't know if you are familiar with the "bathtub". It was a mud pit along one of the trails. That has been shut down last I heard.

Jeeps and comics: Thanks for the welcome. I actually come up to DC a lot for work.... 2007jeepjk: If you contact the ranger station/visitors center up there then you can get them to send you the brochures/pamphlets that talk about the trails the rules and show maps of some of the trails. The maps aren't very good though. I would purchase a Virginia Atlas and Gazetteer. They only cost about 20.00 and it has very good topographical maps with a lot of the fire roads and trails in the forest. I would also suggest that the first time you go up there you should go with someone who has been there before and knows the trails. Next summer I should be going up there for a few wheeling trips. If you want to go just let me know. Sometimes we go up there to camp in the winter too.

Do you have any good wheeling spots up there? I go up that way to wheel in the GWNF.

Welcome. It looks like you have a pretty solid rig to build or have fun with. I just spent my last weekend wrenching on my buddies YJ. Look at his pics if you get time. Its a good looking ride. His profile is Boostedirish. you can get to his profile through mine. He is under Friend/Contacts.

Not at all lol. I'm a new Jeeper myself. Although I would check out NoVaJeepers if you haven't already. Its a local club that I'm going to join and they go on trail rides and what not pretty often. I think they mainly go to the GWNF. From what I've heard that is really the only legal wheeling spot in NoVa unless you know someone with private property.

I thought about joining NOVA Jeepers myself but I never did. I usually go wheelin with my Uncles group... Let me know if you ever want to go. I am pretty sure that GWNF is the only legal wheelin spot in Va. But since it runs almost all the way through Virginia there are quite a few places to wheel even down by Bristol Va. I may be wrong but I am guessing that you are relatively close to the Rawley Springs area which means you could ride into West Va. and hit some of the trails in their National Forest which is right across the Va. line from Rawley Springs. Also the Jeep Jamboree is a cool event you may want to attend. It is usually held in the Crab Tree Falls area. They do a lot of wheelin on private property, but you have to pay for tickets to the event and it only happens once a year... Hope this helps and I hope to see you out on a trail sometime.
