Buying my 2nd Jeep. First one was a 2003 Liberty Renegade, and I didn't even put slush mats in it. My bad. Still, thing was like a friggin Timex...took a lickin' and all...
I should get the new one in a couple weeks from the great city of Detroit.
It's a 2012 JKU Sahara. Since I've had time to think about it and shop around, here's what I've come up with for phase 1 mods:
Bumpers: Smittybilt tubular front and rear. Also considering Rugged Ridge's XHD modular system...I know, completely different looks, but both of them kinda grew on me. I live in an area where they salt the roads when it snows, so I'm staying away from chrome. No plans for a winch in the immediate future.
Anyone have any comments, good or bad, on either of those? I'm pretty much wingin it here.
Rims: Dick Cepek Torques (17x8.5), or possibly XD 801's or 798's (17x9) for rims.
33-inch Mickey Thompson ATZ radials or Goodyear DuraTracs. Anybody got advice on the tires? I'll do a fair amount of wheelin, both for fun and as part of my job, but nothing too hardcore. Mostly DD. Still, the stock Sahara looks a bit feeble to my eye, and I wanna beef 'er up.
I've heard some bad things about DuraTrac sidewalls (squirrely, etc), but mostly from folks who were running them on larger trucks or under heavier payloads. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
My biggest question so far is about the lift. Maybe not all that necessary for 33-inchers, but I still want to add about 3 inches. Would it be better to do a spacer lift and keep the stock springs, or maybe just throw caution to the wind and buy new springs? Not sure about expense in regards to the springs, though I'm not terribly worried about the $
Would these changes affect handling adversely, or require other major changes to brakes, TPMS, and the like that I'm not aware of (and...believe me...I really am NOT aware.
I can take it.
