Newbie in Austin TX - Trading '07 JK for JLU Sahara next week

Hi WF. I am a 25 yr old living in ATX getting ready to trade my JK I've been driving since I got my license in '08. I finally have a big boy job where I can spend a little money, so I am upgrading to a JLU Sahara.

Grew up in KS. My JK took me on a lot of fishing adventures out on our farm. Never had much money to put into it besides tires. I want my JLU to be a new hobby for me--I want to be able to use it as a daily driver but also for my weekend adventures. I have a lot to learn!!

Couple things I could use some help on--
Recommendations on Wheel/Tire combos w/o lift (33 max right?)
Any fun ideas on how to use the aux switches?

Little about the JLU I am going to buy, then a couple pics of my current JK as a goodbye.

Welcome to the forum! If you're going to get 33's right away, have you considered the JL Rubicon? It comes with 33's and 4.10 gears which will be a much nicer ride.

(new info: I am going to order instead)

I've thought about it, but the price difference of ~3000 is something I could not surmount. I have a proposal from a dealer in hand at ~4% under invoice for the Sahara--I know it can handle 33's without a lift, and that's as big as I would be going at least for awhile since it will be my DD. I don't do super intense trails offroad, mainly want to use it as a camping vehicle more than a rock-crawler.

I could do the Rubicon -options I want for a similar price, but those creature comforts will be important because I plan to propose to my girlfriend and hopefully start a family during the life of my JL. It's important to her to have some of those comforts as well. Still open to any advice though!

For the same price difference, I'd be all over the Rubicon. But that's just me. When I got my 2013 Sahara I was in the same mindset as you're now. I ended up regretting not getting the Rubicon for 2k more at the time. If you're planning on doing wheels, tires, and more mods in the future I'd go with the Rubicon. I also don't like painted top and flares, so that's a factor for me, but maybe not you. Either way get the rig that speaks to you the best. It's your money!

I totally understand what you mean by this. I've had similar thoughts over the past week and I've actually decided I am going to order one--something that fits what I want to get out of it. I'm adding some things for myself (infotainment) & my significant other, who will hopefully become my wife in the lifetime of the vehicle. I want something she is comfortable with.. something I could put a car-seat in and take us on a road trip. Not a rockcrawler--more of a weekend camping trip in Big Bend NP on the 4x4 trails that can be handled pretty much stock.

Maybe a few years down the line when she needs a new vehicle she can take the Sahara and I can snag a Rubi without the creature comforts and more off-road mods. I love getting my family into Wranglers. I've loved them since I was a boy. Mine was so great to me as a first-car that now my little brother & sister both have JKU sports (and they are much nicer than my '07--jealous!)

Anyway, I do appreciate the advice. I don't plan on trying to lift and throw 35's on this vehicle--I think I made it sound like that in my last post. It'd be awesome, but it doesn't truly fit my plan, you know.

And I don't like the painted hard-top either, haha

Awesome! IMO ordering one is defiantly the way to go! Then you get exactly what you want. It sucks waiting, but it'll be worth it when it gets here! When it arrives post up some pictures!

I put my deposit down today I think it'll take a long time because I have heard the tan leather and LED's both may be in short supply. Oh well, that gives me some time to get excited. I'll make sure and share some pics when I can. For now I am going to be driving my dad's diesel '06 GMC Sierra 2500HD. I love the thing.
