Nikkob

Hey All,

Just wanted to say hi and ask 1 question at the same time if I may.

Names Nikko and I live just moved to Spain from the UK. We have lots of steep single track roads here so opted to pay a deposit on a 1992 Jeep wrangler 2.5l in Black.

My question is, I have never used the handbrake, hand foot pedals before and this jeep does not have the hill start system so if I am moving off while facing up on a steep hill how do I manage to pull away without rolling backwards?

Am sure there is an obvious answer but if you can put my mind at rest that would be great.

Hoping to collect the jeep sometime next week, looks like it should be a lot of fun, not doing too much motorway work, just for around town and tackling those massive hills we have...

cheers all,

Nikko

First off Hello and welcome to the forum!!

Hills and the 2.5 engine don't go hand in hand unless you are talking off-road hills and are in 4WD, as far as not rolling back on a start......... Just have to learn to feather the gas and clutch at the same time.

I've used several methods, I'll try to put into words what I do:
1. With the hand brake set, press the accelerator and slowly let up on the clutch. As you feel the Jeep pushing against the parking brake, slowly release the hand brake while giving it more gas.
2. the one I most often use is like Big Sarge said; Release the hand brake with your left foot on the brake pedal. With your right foot, press the accelerator a bit and quickly move your foot from the brake to the clutch. Press the clutch in quickly and let it out a little quicker than you would on a level surface.
3. A combination of both above.

It just takes practice.

In the mean time, I just like to say . . .

Hey all,

went to the garage today where we are buying the jeep from and took it for a test ride, although a 1992 model it is a joy to ride and it seems there was a bit of a communication breakdown between the salesman and myself.

As you actually apply the brake with your foot and release via the hand control I have no problems, the salesman told us the other way around and there I was thinking I needed three feet to stop rolling backwards up hills haha.

We get the jeep next Friday, cannot wait,

thanks for your help all, look forward to getting to know you all a bit more

Nikko
