Performance Help

Hey guys, I just bought a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited (not sure if you would call that an LJ or TJ Unlimited). I am looking to increase horsepower and think that a new exhaust and air intake would probably be a good place to start. I guess the questions I have for you salty Jeep vets are:
1. Is a new exhaust and air intake a good idea?
2. If yes for #1, then what types/brands do you suggest?
3. What are some other *cost* effective ways to increase hp and performance?

Thanks for your help everybody!

If you are looking for more power, exhaust and intake wont get you much. Intake and exhaust will help with the sound of your jeep, but not much else. One of the best ways to gain some pick-up from your jeep would be through regearing. This is probably the most practical method, although some other options would be a v8 swap or a supercharger.

Do you know what it would take to regear a Jeep (cost/parts etc.)?

I think the average is around 1000 for front and rear. Are you running tires larger than stock or have any intention of doing so?

I have 31x10.50 on my Jeep. They are a little larger than stock, but not by a lot.
