Possible new NJ jeeper w/questions (Rookie)

I've been looking for a used wrangler for a daily driver and particularly for summer as I live on the shore. I found one for sale I may pick up but have a few questions that maybe some veterans can help with.

It's an 87 YJ with a V8. The pictures show a Mopar Performance v8 installed which I find to be a bonus, but unfortunately it's an automatic. He says the dash reads 119k, the motor has 90k, but the title says 200k for title purposes (completely shady). In addition to the V8 conversion, it has a rebuilt transfer case and transmission. Has 31" tires w/8k miles on them and aftermarket jeep wheels. Also comes with an Alpine head unit.

I have him down to 2500 right now with either the soft or hard top (my pick). If I get him to 2500 with both tops, assuming the motor is running as well as he said and there are no huge flaws he's hiding, I may take it this weekend.

First, is that a decent price for this year YJ with a V8 installed? I'm not a jeep guy so I honestly haven't the slightest clue. Nadaguides values for a v6 of that year are as follows: 2,720, 3,605, 5,320 for low, average, and high retail, respectively.

Next, when I go to test drive and check it out, are there any specific things I should be looking for in addition to rust? There is some rust on the rear bumper as you'll see in the pics, but the frame is supposedly rust free.

Check out the pics and thanks for the help!

I am wrong a lot of times in things of this nature-but I think it is because it is a matter of opinion. A performance V8 in a Jeep that you are going to use for a DD is a bad idea with gas being +$4 a gallon. To me this is something that would make a better dedicated trail rig with the V8 as a starting point - but from the pics there is still a lot of work to do. Suspension/ skid plates/ wheels/ removal of plow attachment- Another consideration is that with that much power unless drive-train has been upgraded it wasn't designed for that kind of power. Since it appears to have been used for plowing wonder if anything is bent or tweaked?

To my knowledge the YJs didn't come with a V6 but an inline 6-If it were me I would pass on this one and look for a close to stock Jeep with the I6.

just my .02

After talking to a buddy of mine with a TJ, he also said to raise the question about it being used to plow and for how long. the transmission has been rebuilt, but i doubt it was built specifically for that power.

I am primarily going to use this to and from work (literally 5 minutes), so the V8 wouldn't be a problem. I do, however, see the questions this conversion raises. 1-2 times a month I do take an hour or so trip out of state, and I would be using the jeep as I want to stop racking up miles and rock chips on my other car.

I'll keep my eye open for others in the area, I'm not in a huge rush.

Thanks for the advice.

My opinion if ur not a motor head you r asking for trouble it will be hard for someone to trouble shoot any future problems. Stay away go stock and fix it up youself

any thoughts on this jeep I found:

92 YJ 4x4
4 cyl
5 sp manual
160k miles

It comes with a hardtop and otherwise looks like it's stock. He's asking 2400. Sounds like a decent deal to me....
