Exclamation Possible newbie. Need advice.

Hey guys,

I currently drive a 2005 subaru sti. I'm the original owner. 74k. Very clean with alot invested. Paid off/title in hand.
I recently had a son. So I'm looking to sell/trade down to free up some money. Book on my car is around $18,300.
I listed it on forums and craigslist for sale or trade. I've had alot of lowball offers. One offer I'm considering is a 1997 jeep wrangler sport.
1997 jeep wrangler sport
145xxx miles on body
60xxx on the rebuilt engine
5 speed 4.0 i6
3 3/4 inch lift 33x12.5r15 tires
4.11 gears
K/n filter
New clutch
Wagner thermoquiet ceramic brakes
New control arm bushings
Transmission was just serviced by aamco transmissions
I asked why he had a rebuilt motor put in and he said, He punctured the radiator wheelin' and melted the original block.

I am trying to figure out a good amount of $$$ to ask on top of the trade from his end. Right now I'm thinking about 11k. Also trying to find out what to watch out for with this year wrangler. Or if I should not even consider the trade. I'm relatively mechanically inclined, so if you guys could give me some insight on what to check out and watch out for it would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone on here is looking for a clean 400whp sti and has a reliable jeep+cash feel free to offer up. I can give you complete mod list/details on my car.

Thanks in advance.

Taylor, welcome to the WF!

If the owner of the Wrangler has all the receipts for everything claimed new, then you'd still be making him a very good deal. Take a good look at the frame and check for rust in all the usual places. Drive it on and off the highway and engage the 4WD system.

33x12.5x15 tires are not at all cheap so with the offer you have in mind they should be new or only a couple thousand miles at most on them as they'll run you a pretty penny when the time comes to replace them.

Others will be by with more info, no doubt. If you can, get us a picture of the Wrangler (inside, outside and underneath if you can) and we'll be better equipped to answer your questions.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. Another question I have is. How would the 4.11 gear fair on highway driving? I drive about 15min to work everyday, but it's almost all highway. Thanks.

These are the only pictures he has provided so far...

and my sti

Welcome to the Forum

You shouldn't have any concerns about the 4:11s. It's the semis (trucks) that you have to watch out for. jk The Wrangler will make that trip fun again. You will start looking for longer routes to get there.

Thanks for the welcome. The trip is plenty fun in a 400whp awd car. I just need to move on to something a little cheaper to own and free up some cash. And I've always wanted a jeep. Just trying to get insight about some offers from people who know.
