Ready to start a new hobby...my jeep!

Hello fellow jeepers, getting ready to move out to sunny California and finally putting aside some time to build my new toy. I'm planning on making this my new hobby for the next couple years and building from the ground up. What do you all think of seeking out a salvaged or wreck jeep to start from? It seems like I can get a much newer model for much less cost and seeing as I will be starting from scratch and replacing pretty much everything...suspension, engine (planning on a V8 swap), etc. this looks like a viable option.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Sounds like a great project, I suggest you cruze the forum and check out the various areas. You'll find some great build threads in the various model build sections.

In the mean time, I just like to say . . .

Welcome to the Forum and to SoCal.. What is it that you plan to do with your Jeep. I know of a couple of jeeps that are going cheap. one YJ and a J10 pickup.

Will probably be mostly basic commuting, but will be going off road whenever I get the chance. Don't plan on any real serious rock crawling but would like to attend some of the local jeep trips and will certainly end up out in Moab as I head out there for mountain biking from time to time.
