Road trip - Picking up the new rig.

New member and soon to be new JKU owner. I've been looking at these for a long time since I'm an avid outdoors person (fishing, hunting, back country exploring) but never had the chance to get one until now. My girlfriend has always wanted one as well so in order to make it happen she decided to sell her truck and car and we'd go together on one. She recently moved in and it's a little crazy having 4 rigs (two fullsize trucks) for two of us so selling off her two and buying her a new rig made sense.

We started looking at 08's and newer and after some test driving and shopping decided we wanted a 12' or better. Then we realized the prices weren't much different so we decide we'd just get a new one. I normally buy used but this purchase has turned into something rather special. We tried to find the right one but didn't have a lot of luck. Tried to order one but kept getting the run around. Sometime I wondered if anyone really wanted to sell us one. I did some digging on this site and found out we are too late to order a 2014 Freedom.

There are 2 JKU Freedom's optioned like we want and both are located in Golden Co. so we are flying over to Denver next week to get the silver one and drive it home. We decided we'd make this into a little road trip and will spend a couple of days in Moab since we are driving by. Pretty tough to find a room in town for next week but the jeep gods must be smiling on us since we did manage to find a room and at reasonable rate no less.

I'm not sure how far some people have gone to get a jeep but it will be about a 1400 mile trip home to Portland. I would of thought maybe a dealer trade could happen but no one was willing to go that far I guess. The dealership in Golden has been ok to deal with over the phone and email and everything is ready to go. Just need to get on a plane and get there.

Looking forward to the trip and finally getting a Jeep!

Here it is just outside of Moab...

Heading out to Gemini Bridges...

I have to say I'm impressed with it. It's really the GF's rig but I'll get to enjoy it as well. The JKU has exceeded my expectations in just about every way. The ride is better than I thought. It's way more comfortable than I imagined. we put in some serious seat time and it was dang comfy. MPG's are better as well, computer said 23mpg average on our trip home, hand calc'd numbers were 19.5 to 22.

It's a gutless turd imo and there are the jeep idiosyncrasies that will take some getting used to. I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars tho after 4 days and 1800miles.

Thank you to the wranglerforum for the info gleaned prior to making the purchase.
