Exclamation Smittybilt does not work with my Jeep

My soft top recently suffered a "cold weather tear", so the shop says. They could not provide me with a window kit in the correct color so I bought a whole new top. I bought a Smittybilt and installed it myself. I got to the last step...installing the tailgate bar to the rear window and hit a road block. My old top had a rubber tube sewn in that slid into the bar to hold the window down...the Smittybuilt simply has a piece of fabric folder in half and sewn in that is supposed to slide in to the bar to hold the window down. Problem: the fabric is too thin and pulls right through the opening in the bar. They sales person told me I must not have had a factor top or tailgate bar, I thought I did. The old top was a medium to dark brown (darker than the spice) but there is no label or logo anywhere on the top. I bought the Jeep from CarMax seven years ago and was told everything was still factory original. Can anyone help me out and tell me what brand the top may have been or how to make the Smittybilt work if infact my parts are not factory? Thanks!!

Because this is the newbie check-in area, you may not get the answers you are looking for. I suggest you check out this forum area and post your questions there, I think you'll get a better response.
