Soon to be Jeep owner

I am new to Jeeps. I have always wanted one since I was kid. Of course my parents wouldn't spring for one when I was in high school so I could never get one. Guess what, I am all grown up now and what I drive is up to me. Sure they aren't the most practical vehicles and the gas mileage is terrible. But if I was into that, I would posting in a Prius forum or something, not the Wrangler one. Owning a Jeep, especially a Wrangler, is a bold statement. I am placing it right up there with owning a Porsche or Ferrari. You are proud of the vehicles that you have choosen and you want to be noticed. I don't think that there are too many vehicles that have a big a following as the Wranglers. I am proud that I will soon be part of the Wrangler family and community.

I am in the midst of a cross country move from Juneau to Phoenix, once I get all situated, the first on my list is to pick up a TJ. I sold my car here in Juneau so I have cash to burn. I was hoping to keep the budget around $7000, but after looking at Craig's List for weeks, it looks like I am going to have to bump it up to around $10k. 4.0, manual, soft top, hard doors, 2-4" lift, AC, any color but yellow, after market wheels with 31-33" tires, less than 100K miles are all the preferences that I am looking for. Did I leave anything out? Perhaps I am being unreasonable in my requests. I am cash buyer though and a born negoiator, I think I can talk someone down $1000-2000, especially in this economy.

Any suggestions on what to look for would be especially helpful. New to Jeeps, but not cars in general. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, I can do all fluid changes (diff, transfer, etc), brakes, tune ups, what have you. Jeeps are unique and I have zero experience with them. I have driven quite a few so I do know what to expect. Any common mishaps when the Jeeps approach 100k? Thank you and I look forward to posting many more threads in the future. Particularly the new Jeep once it is in my possession.

Welcome! I think you are going to like the winters here in Phx better than Alaska! haha

Looks like you got everything you need, and yes, I think it is reasonable. Welcome to the addiction, and don't forget to wave!

Are you UofA alum? I am a Sun Devil class of 08. Tough break yesterday. It was a real nail bitter. We pulled it off. Two blocked PATs in one game, unreal. I couldn't believe it. Double OT, you can't write that stuff. Throw everything out the window in rivalry games. That first half was miserable. But what a second half.

50 yard line, 15 rows up...
Yeah, that was a tough one to swallow. Our kicker is either going to commit suicide or get murdered.
