Hi everyone, I'm still pretty new here. I have made a few posts in the YJ Forums, but I just noticed this section.
I'm enjoying learning how to fix up my wife's Jeep.
When her and I first started dating about 6 1/2 years ago, I had changed the oil in the jeep and looked it over, but for whatever reason I didn't check the coolant level. As she was driving back from college on a crazy hot day, it started smoking from under the hood. The coolant was too low and cracked the block...
So I found a used 2.5L engine from a Jeep YJ that was T-boned by a tree... Which ripped the motor mounts out of the jeep, that should have been a hint... But I was trying to save her money, so we went with it instead of a newly rebuild one that was only $600 more... Which is still a lot...
A guy I worked with welded studs into the engine block so we could mount it back to the frame. Where the bolts would go into the block, it was ripped off and half of the bolt hole was broken open... I have pictures somewhere that I should upload.
After we had that put in, we took it up to Blessing of the Jeeps in Mesick, MI and continued up to Traverse City for the rest of the weekend with two friends in the back of the jeep. It drove great! Then we let her mom borrow it and someone oil started dripping out like no tomorrow... We thought it was from around the oil filter, as that lip was bent, but we later found out it is was a hairline crap just above it...
So my buddy's dad, who taught me to put in a new floor pan (I just posted pictures in the YJ Build Forum), heated and welded the block from underneath on his back. I find that impressive!!! The computer and stock radio got fried from a bad ground, but we replaced the computer and all is well now. Knock on wood....
I'd like to have the drivers side rocker panel replaced, a new stereo and new dash speakers in by this year's Blessing of the Jeeps on April 30th. :-)
Anyone else going???
The sound bar or speaker wedges can wait until after. And I'm going to build a website for a tire garage in return for at price rims and tires, which will go on after the 2.5" suspension lift. And the lift will around the time we sand blast and coat the bottom of the frame... Which would be nice to start by the end of this summer or next year... Always something!
Thank you all for your advice in advanced!
