Wrangler Consideration

Hi guys,

I have recently purchased a cottage and it looks like I am desperately in need of a car like Wrangler. I really need something that would tow a boat/trailer, plow snow, go on a lake in winter for ice fishing or just generally drive around with the roof and doors off I would keep it at the cottage and I am looking at a budget of 5K. I am really not looking to do any serious off-roading at this point, winters in Canada provide enough excitement as it is. Which model/year would you recommend and how is the reliability and the cost of maintenance (parts and labor) ?

Would really appreciate your input!

First off, welcome!
For that budget, I would aim for a YJ or a TJ. Everyone has their own preference, I would go test drive them to see which one you would like better

yeah YJ of earlier year TJ will be what you will get for 5k... get a stock one that has been driven nicely you wont have much for repair costs... no more then any other vehicle

Is there anything specific I should be looking out for? I know that 95 YJs have been galvanized. Also what about the durability of the I4 vs I6?

First thing I'd have you watch out for is the weight of that boat/trailer your towing. Jeeps aren't the best for towing. And a YJ or TJ is only good to tow 2000lbs max safely.

I am looking at around 1500lbs, plus the boat launch is like 1km away.
