Big Island Love

Hey all,

Now that I finally have my Jeep and the lift is in the works, I need to hit up some trails!

Open to anything on the island! I've done Maks and Waipio (obvious first choices) but I need something more off the beaten path...

I'd also be down to meet up for some offroading if anyone is interested!

If you ever get to the Hilo side, the belt road is a beautiful drive and you can get into 4x4 if you like here and there.

Hopefully my old '03 will keep up.

South Point, watch your clearance at the start and stay to the north if you do not want to be in trenches too deep to see over from your Jeep. It is not a hard drive to the green sand beach. If it seems too hard try a more northerly trail.

Road to the Sea, about 500 yards or so before the shore there is a spur on the north side. Fairly decent lava crawling that way.

Mauna Loa Obdservatory Road continues to the west of the fenced installation, it gets loose quickly but it is easy if you have lockers.

Kapoho Kumukahi Lighthouse road ends with some decent lava flow trails for messing around while someone else is fishing/cooking at the south end.

The Saddle road has some good spurs on the East side.

That is all my wife and I discovered in the ten days we had a rental Sport.

I forgot Keana Kolu Rd and Kahinahina Road if you want a nice leisurely drive.
