Dennis throwing some shade at Tacoma...

Thought this was a little funny. Maybe not as funny as some of his video's, but the part where the Tacoma is spinning it's tires on a very mild hill was pretty sad.

I know, right? I've been saying that I want to replace her JK with a JT and she's even a truck girl... But she looks at me and shakes her head no in that super firm kind of way. You know, the way that when a man sees it, he knows not to say another word.

So I just go out and play with the new LJ Rubicon...

Funny I have been married over half my life and my wife knows when I get the vehicle itch without me even saying anything. A couple days before I went to Moab this time, she out of the blue said "you are going to trade your jeep on a new one when you get home aren't you" I was like what? why did you say that? and she just shook her head.

"The Tacoma comes in at a ten-grand cheaper price."

But you're getting a 15-year older truck, which is now objectively the worst truck in the segment in every category. Even the Frontier, which is equally as old and hasn't been updated as much, has a better engine.

Toyota had a fail of epic proportions when they went to that 3.5... It's crap compared to the old 4.0. This new Tacoma might be one of their worst ever production vehicles.

It's also fair to say that the non Rubi JT would have matched it on price and still soundly out performed it off-road.

I bought a 2019 Ranger and it is night and day better than a Tacoma. Averaging 25.8 mpg!

Dennis throwing some shade at Tacoma...

I find the comparisons between the Colorado ZR2 and JTR more interesting. Comparing the Tacoma to the JT is like comparing a cold day-old baloney sandwich on Weberís with Miracle Whip to a Philly cheese steak from Patís or Genoís. Not even a fair comparison. LOL

What's the price difference if you don't get the Rubicon? Isn't that a more fair comparison?

As a former Toyota Tacoma owner, I can attest that all the shortcomings brought up in these reviews are real: the stupid automatic transmission programming, the cramped interior, the uncomfortable seats, the weak motor, the loud Crawl Control electronics, etc.

However, Tacoma sales are through the roof and resale values continue to hold at the top of the rankings.

Toyota designs vehicles to don’t break first; to work well second. And that has enough Toyota owners convinced that anything else on the market is absolute c*p.

I've got a few offroading buddies driving Tacomas and I've got nothing but good things to say about them.

I mean... I can't speak to most of that stuff... but they seem to like them, the trucks prove themselves pretty capable on the trails, and they do look pretty great doing it.

Until the Gladiator came along, they seem to have been the truck of choice for offroading. I never see a Colorado or any of the bigger trucks on the trails but I've been out with at least 4 different Tacomas.

I found Tacoma owners a strange bunch. While most other vehicle owners are aware to some degree of what else is out there, Toyota owners seem completely self-absorbed into Toyotas.

For instance, the fact that Toyota includes a terrible 6-speed automatic transmission on Tacomas tells them that that’s as good an automatic can get. If Toyota doesn’t offer a better transmission, in their minds no other automaker can possibly offer a better automatic transmission either. The same is true of the weak 3.5 V6, the 4WD, the suspension, etc. It gets pretty boring after awhile...

As much as Jeepers love their Jeeps, they seem to have a greater degree of awareness about Jeeps’ unique strengths, and of their limitations.
