I'm thinking a 4WD Nissan Frontier, 4 door. 6300lbs towing capacity, under $30K new. In fact a local dealer has a 2018 with 70 miles on it for $26K. Jeep can keep their fancy high falutin pick up put down.

I have a need to move stuff, but I don't have a need to move that stuff in a Jeep.

Yeah, "mine" was a 2-door XLT/FX4/Sport pretty well loaded for that $38-39K list. I'll bet I could have one for low 30s.

I I have no doubt spring 2020 they will start putting incentives and discounts on the Ranger. Maybe not to the extent that they do the F150. But they will be there.

I see no one has mentioned the Raptor word. I think the Raptor is the fairest comparison on a desirability/cachet/what will people pay scale, which is all that matters. That makes 60-80K totally in line.

I see a Raptor as much higher on the desirability/cachet scale....

As in, if I'm spending that much money, I'm getting the Raptor.

And... Raptor will get you V8-like performance, 10-speed automatic, room for six people in comfort, state-of-the-art electronics, etc., etc., etc.

This thing has the same 3.6 V6, compromised interior and questionable Fiat electronics found on every JL.

I expected FCA to aim high with JT pricing, but this is pure idiocy.

BTW - January sales figures came out: FCA gained 2% over last January thanks to Ram; Jeep was down despite growing incentives and fleet sales.

Good luck keeping that retooled Toledo 150,000-unit plant breaking even.

Is 150,000 considered break even? Because they were throwing out some crazy production numbers when they announced the retool investment

The Toledo plant capacity is 100,000-150,000; breakeven was 60,000 JKs if I am not mistaken. I'd think it would take more JTs to breakeven after the retooling.

But at those insane prices I don't see Jeep selling more than 30,000 units/year, which is well below whatever breakeven level is.

something tells me that Jeep is going to try to do just what the name stands for...if the Gladiator is truly starting around $80K I am sorry, but nope, not going to happen, yes I would like one and would love to get one, but not at that price point, hell I will trade my truck in and buy a 1962 classic for a third of that price!! geez....and that is a fully restored ready to DD 1962 classic with full insurance and tags, and still not even come close to the $80K....uuug

It is a cliché to hear that Wrangler has no competition. Which is true to some extent. The thing is, the more FCA increases the price, the more competition for people’s dollars it creates.

With JT it is different. I think FCA is underestimating the competition JT will face. Pickup trucks are first and foremost about getting tough work done. Even people who never plan to haul anything buy into this image when shopping a pickup truck. This is why Honda Ridgeline gets no respect: while Ridgeline is perfectly capable of handling 90% of pickup buyers’ uses, the truck doesn’t have the tough image they want.

JT will be positioned as the most off-road capable pickup. As we know on these forums, that off-road capability comes at the price of a small interior, a stiff ride, vague handling and poor MPG. Further, a 5-foot bed severely limits what a pickup truck can do. Add to that those pretty polyurethane fenders sticking out, a relatively fragile fiberglass/canvas top...and JT looks less and less practical as a pickup. Then add a crazy price and demand gets restricted even further.

JT will likely have its best sales in years 1 and 2. After that it will have a tough time keeping up sales once everyone who desperately wanted it bought one.

Like I said before, I hope FCA has done its research.

Sooo called the JT being overpriced a year and a half ago and got flamed from far and wide. Think this is hilarious, Fiat expects big things with this and frankly don't see how. The JT is too big for tight wooded trails, so it's more of an open trail vehicle or "baja" rig, what would you want in the open west, a turd or a Raptor for about the same price.

Going Tuesday. Did they have one out on the floor where you could actually look at it? Or was it behind ropes or on a revolving pedestal?

That must be the “entry-level” $50,000 JT. Looks like it was put it together with salvaged parts

I’m not a big fan of painted fenders, some colors do look good tho. Those shiny black fenders look terrible. Curious...what color is the main body? I’ve only seen a rendering of gator green, so I’m not sure. Looks sorta green or Is it a trick if the light?

Toyota TRD with options and a 6600 lb tow capacity is around $40 to $42k.
What is Jeep thinking if they really are going to be higher than the competition.
There is a love for Jeep but not a STUPID love.

Unfortunate, since reviews all are pretty positive on the Ridgeline. I personally would actually consider one if they'd make it in a 2-door since it would do everything I need a pickup for.

The world could use something like the Ford Ranchero/Chevy ElCamino again, only modernized with AWD. Most pickups I see locally have one person in them and are never hauling a load of any kind, and are certainly overkill for most who own them.

Anyway, back to overpriced JTs....
