JT Decisions, decisions...

Morning folks!
I have been going back and forth whether to jump into a 2020 JT Sport S and say goodbye to my 2014 JKU hard top. I would love some feedback!

I always said that the only way I would get rid of the JKU was for a p/u style new release Jeep, and here we are. Haven't been bitten by the JL bug for some reason. I take the top and doors off in April/May and leave them off as long as possible in fall. It's a daily driver that goes 40-50 miles a day round trip to work and back with frequent trips to Seattle or Portland (250 miles one way), almost all highway at 75 mph. Eastern WA is a desert, and the Wranglers have never blinked at snow on highways or mountain passes. I am just rolling over to 110K miles on the JKU, so that is a consideration. I have done all the recommended maintenance, and use synthetic oil that gets a change every 5000 miles. It is Wrangler number 5 for me; started with a 93, then a 95, 02, 08 and now the 14. Unlike many, I have never had a major mechanical issue in any of them. I am 6'5", and the headroom in Jeeps has always been a major plus. Kids are gone now and I am getting antsy.

Long story short, the JKU will be paid for in March. Haven't done a lot of mods other than wheels and some cosmetics, but I am ready to throw down for new bumpers, stereo, etc. Not that they are going to improve performance, but they will improve my satisfaction! I will finally have the money to do so. And then the JT arrives and my financial considerations go out the window. I have test driven the JT, and the interior seems more cramped (not sure how to quantify that) but it drives great. Love the new auto tranny and interior redesign. I already own a full size 2005 2WD Ford F-250 diesel full bed for towing a camper that the JT couldn't pull anyway, and and it only has 78K on it. Don't need the JT, but damn it's just so fricking cool!

So, trade the JKU knowing I wouldn't then spend the 5K or so I want to put in it to go to the JT down payment or mod the hell out of it knowing that I won't see much of that $$$ back if the engine goes and I need to get out of it. Driving habits won't change, go to the mountains 3-4 times a year on trails and such, and the JT will allow me to do doors and top off which is the best reason to own a Jeep, imo. Thanks for humoring me with the long post! Thanks in advance for the advice!

I have been wanting one too. I fit in one no problem. My hold back is my 2018 recon is nearly paid for and trade offers have been pathetic.

Well I "pulled the trigger on a Sport S HT, Max Tow Aux switch in Gobi a few days ago. My LJ has 253000 miles just replaced the clutch a 4 weeks back then upper radiator hose went 2 weeks later... the hose I replaced as preventive maintenance. Paid for, I have mods on it, and still running great.

Kind of the way I think I might go Sport S with max tow vs Rubicon. They have some really good pricing that way. Gobi is not a bad color at all, while it is not my favorite it is in the top 3. (I have over 2 years of Gobi ownership and still wish I would have gotten bright white).

post some photos.

My wife say she will have the divorce papers ready if I get a JT.. but she said that about my JL
I was recently diagnosed with Ehler Danlos Hypermobility disorder.. figured that out because my joints pain has gone to a total new level these past 2 years.. long story short degenerative disc disease and a fused lower back, I am want/needing a better ride. The JT will keep me ina Jeep longer. I also spend a lot of time topless and doorless. Going to a Grand Cherokee or Pickup will be tough. Cant and wont do cars. Too hard to get that low and into them, when I can lift a leg and slide in. I just wish the bed on the JT was a bit bigger..
Im still not sold and would love an extended cab version.
In essence what will happen is I will go to look at one in 6-12 months and get one. I know how I am lol

Vs my JKU my JT drives like a Cadillac. It has a lot of versatility too. I say do it. I will say I got an Overland (bought it used - long story) and the ride is great and the options are such that I wont mod like I have before. You might try to drive all models and see if you notice a difference.

Now that they have the Truck of the Year package for the Sport S and Overland, it's a great deal. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/t...eep-gladiator/ And you can get the body color fenders and AT tires on the Sport in a special $250 package. So you could get the Sport with max tow, add Truck of the Year package to save money, and you have a nice truck. Or if you don't need max tow. I'm half-tempted to order one and trade in my Rubicon for it. I like Gator. I think I'll wait and see if they ever offer it in yellow. Maybe in Spring (hopefully).

Better go sit in one before you get excited. I'm 6'3" and my head was against the soundbar/sport bar. I fit snug in a JK, and great in a YJ. I don't think I could drive a JT comfortable/safely

I'm 6'3" and 1/4", weigh 240lbs and fit fine. Seat's down the whole way and tilted back slightly. But yeah, anyone should sit in one first to make sure. I've read about others my height and a little shorter who had problems.

Being tall sucks for most vehicles. Now having to crawl in and out of another low to the ground car is h### on back n knees ECT. I wish they made the JT 4 inches taller inside and the rearview mirror close to very top of windshield not sticking down blocking vision. I remounted my LJ rearview mirror that way. Before the JT was announced I was getting a Renagade it was "designed" to be comfortable for someone 6ft plus. I test drove a few and was 3 days from delivery of one and cancelled. Glad I did! Same problem I always had with my Comanche but I didn't want a big @## truck and low gas mileage. I did like it's MPG unless you stuck foot in it. I've got a plenty of leg room in the JT compared to most vehicles other than F250 crew cab and the like size trucks. Any way I see it is trade off(s). MPG vs safety of larger vehicle.

Thanks for the input everyone! Going to go check them out again today. Last day of the $2000 incentive. Now I see there is a "Truck of the Year" package available, so building might be an option. The Sport I drove yesterday was more cramped than the JKU, but not tight by any means. Little things drive me nuts; the Alpine system is an extra $1700! Wish I could get them to take it out! The stock rims and tires look like they're off a rental IMO, so a switch there would be immediate. Happy Monday all!

Have them find you one without the stereo option. I have the base stereo and its sounds pretty good.

Cool. I had read some posts from people for the JL that didn't like it but wondered if there was much difference. I have the 7". I had the premium sound and sub in my JK and think the 7" stereo sounds just as good without the sub in the JT. Does yours have the 2 USB ports behind the center console?

No it doesnt have those. Im sure the upgraded stereo is definitely miles ahead of the basic one, but it still sounds pretty damn good in my opinion. Especially compared to the JK base stereo, that was just god awful

Well, the game is afoot. Found a Gobi JT 76 miles away. Has the Max Tow, which most important to me means the 4.10 axle ratio and 240 amp alternator. No Alpine deluxe radio (thank you!) but adds some convenience stuff, like remote start, bedliner, step rails for the wife, etc. I'll keep you all in the loop. MSRP at $48,010, so we'll see where this goes.

I think I've been bitten by the JT bug as well. It will take a bit for my stars to align but I think its time I replaced my 13 year old JKU.

Looks like the Sport S with the max tow package is the best for me too.

In the mean time I'll follow everyone's updates.

Agreed. Im in the same boat. Little more ride comfort. I like the dana 44s and 4.10 ratio. Soft top and cold weather pkg and Im good. Only thing Im having issues with is the transmission hump. It messed with my right knee when its acting up. Other than that my wife thinks their ugly.. so I may be single soon lol

Good callouts...
One exception is the colored matched fenders are not allowed with Max Tow option. Very disappointing...
The Max Tow has 2 piece fenders like the Rubicon and Overland Models with an extended lip for the wider axles. (Uses the same axles as the Rubicon without the lockers).
I went from a 2013 JKUR to a JT, and it's like night and day..
Loved my JK, but the JT is like being in the 21st Century...
I was always on the fence of moving to a JL, but the JT was just what I needed.
Good luck with your choice...

Well I pulled the plug and did it! I'll post a picture or two this afternoon. Sport S w/Max Tow, and I swapped the new (10,000) mile Goodyear 265 70/17s off of the JKU for the factory 245's, which were called All Terrain, but only if the terrain was pavement IMO. Will still replace the wheels, but the tires improved the look much more than I anticipated. Rides great, no headroom issues, wife loves it. She tolerated the 14 JKU and hated the 08, so I guess I did OK by her! Now I have to figure out what to do with some extra JK stuff that are on my workbench, but I wouldn't be surprised if I pick up a used JK down the road. So now I am looking at mirrors for going with no doors, front bumper, wheels, and all the other good stuff. Dealer went and got it for me, so swapping out stuff today. Got a good deal and did ok (I think) with $18K for trade. The JKU was going to need some TLC parts soon and shocks, so I saved a bit that way. Did get the warranty and lifetime synthetic oil change; let's not start that debate though! 4.99% financing w/a local credit union, and I must say the Lithia dealer was great to work with. Not much haggling, and the sales manager said MOPAR accessories at cost for whatever I want down the road (tonneau cover for sure). I went pretty low profile with the Dune JKU, but I am thinking black or desert tone wheels and a 24" inch black antenna v. the stubby I had on the JKU. You know, the important things... :-)

I really like the Carolina Metal Masters mirrors. Expensive but worth it. I have the cheap o mirrors that go in the hinge holes. They stay for the most part.. high winds, or an accidental bump requires some adjustments lol.
Cant wait to see some pics!

Whoa, this thread describes my situation almost exactly. I factory ordered a new JKU Hard Rock in 2015 that will be paid off in a couple of months. I have it built almost like I want it, but I'm pretty much in love with the Gladiator Rubicon package. I'm seriously considering letting the JKU go if I can get a decent return on it. The only issue is the mileage (93k and rising). The Jeep itself is sitting on a 3" lift with Metalcloak armor and 35s. If I could find someone who wants it bad enough to give me $30,000 for it, I'd have a Gladiator tomorrow. I'm just not sure how much my mileage will hurt me on resell/trade value.

You know what they say about mods; you'll never get back what they are worth! I'm betting at around $24K trade allowance with that mileage. That's where mine took a dip I believe.

Congratulations. For a half second I thought you killed the deal since you said you pulled the plug.
You will love the JT.

My 2015 JKURHR had 85,000 on it when I traded it in on my JLUR, I got $33,000 on it and they still matched any JLUR price I had gotten from 5 other dealers.
Variables can be time of month/year, market, available stock and incentives etc etc.
I pulled the trigger on mine because I "sensed" the timing was right. The JL's were just rolling in and JK values were good.

Opinions being what they are.... I have never been a P/U guy couple that with; Two Large Dogs, the concept of "everybody" owns your truck or so they think.... JT probably not in my windshield.

Sorry, mixed up my metaphors...pulled the string, did the deal, got off the couch, got in the game, etc.! More later!

Shop around, maybe you'll get lucky. Do you have a few Jeep dealers where you live?
