REDARC Trailer Brake Controller & Mopar 7-Pin Harness Install

Hello,

Here are two videos that might help out some folks who are looking to add a trailer brake controller to their JK.

Interesting you added that panel adapter for the attenuator. It seemed like all I had to do was drill a hole and tighten it down.

I do appreciate the mounting location for the gyro box as mine was a pain to install down in the lower drivers A pillar area.

Installed my 7 pin adapter in the rear bumper as I figured I would be breaking it off that low on my rear bumper.

Have fun cutting into that brake line wire?

While pricey, the Redarc is a great fit for a Wrangler.

Here is another installation option: under the shifter and parking brake trim, with the control knob mounted next to the shifter.

Thanks. It was not too difficult. Just take the time to do it correctly. Factory harness is for sure the way to go.

I like a clean look. Figured I was already over $300 into it...what is another $18? I wanted to mount the 7 pin in the bumper but the Recon bumper had no space without going into the frame. Plus the wiring harness did not have enough slack to do much else. For now, it will work. I ended up cheaping out and using a wire tap. I tried like hell to get more slack in the harness under the dash but I was unable to. Even unplugged the speaker and pulled the harness snap out of the cast aluminum. No joy. I agree, the clean install and two modes should work well.

I have my two OTRATTW switches mounted in that location so it was not viable for me.

750 miles, two days, and I must say the new trailer brake controller and harness work well. I am happy with my choices. Trailer seems to be best around 4.5 on the power knob. Tows great too.

I have towed a teardrop, about 950 lbs dry, all over the country with no brakes and never had an issue. I recently bought a m416 with a lid and have the RTT mounted to it. The PO swapped axles and it now has electric brakes. I have never towed off road, so my question is, does such a light trailer need the brakes or should I be good without a controller and just let the brakes sit there silently? Thanks for any input. I will be pulling this trailer with a 2014 JKUR 3" lift and 35's
