4wd.com

I wasn't going to post, but this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I've ordered many things from vendors on this forum and even with minor issues, as expected with heavy parts shipped across country. But extreme terrain, quadratec, and others have been excellent had any issues arose.

I ordered a headunit and have nothing but issues with it, talked to the manufacturer whom advised I swap it out. So I called 4wp on a Friday to do the exchange for a new one and was advised they only do exchanges on Monday's since there is only one guy who does it. Thought ok, easy enough. Call Monday and explain the situation and was told they can always do exchanges. Awesome!

I was told will do a swap for a new one. They have them in stock. And should get it in a few days to swap. I paid 1100 bucks for something that was defective, the agent was sympathetic to my cause. Thought nice now I won't have to drive around for a week +with a hole in the dash. And I was having tendon repair on my right hand, I'm rt handed and wouldnt been able to remove everything come the following week. The person I talked to was very nice and helpfu and said I'd be good to go and will receive a tracking update in a day or so.l-(little backstory)-I installed the flush mount rear cam that came with the setup, drilling a hole in the bumper to do so.

Two days later no email. I call and tell the whole situation over again to be told, "we don't do exchanges like that" ok wtf are you talking about. I explain that this how I set it up with the other rep. Nope, doesn't work that way, send yours back and once it's received in Ohio the new one will ship. As it turns out these are drop shipped from Texas and they don't stock them in the warehouse apparently. So I wait a few hours and thought there's something that can be done to fix the confusion, I'll talk to a manager.

I get a rep and ask her if she can do the swap. Figured wouldn't hurt cause people keep telling me different things. She confirmed that's the way it works. I ask for a manager and with an attitude and a huff, "hold on". So after being on hold for about five minutes she clicks back and "nope" ok then I ask if they are going to reimburse me to have in installed since I won't be able to do it or give me a discount off for the constant miscommunication. I asked nicely, their mistake why wouldn't they want to rectify it. I thought it was fair considering. My answer- "that's not our problem and we don't pay for installs" thanks super bitchy lady. I calmly tell her that I order many things form there and her competitors and that if this issue arose with one of them they would try to at least help in the situation. (Damaged bumpers due to shipping previously) "We don't "and hung up.

So I'm pissed, but figure it is what it is at this point. The worst is over. I ship the old stuff back and it is received in at their facility this morning. I give a call to get the tracking number on the new one so it's not sitting on my doorstep. I get somebody on the phone ask for the tracking number. Silence, typing. We don't have your package. Ugh it's never ending. I tell her who received it in. Oh well it takes three days for them to receive it in and ship a new one. I explain the whole situation again. "That's not how we do things" They don't do things that's why this happened.

Everyone I spoke to outside of one person was not familiar with the product they are selling and answered we just sell them contact the manufacturer or read the website, I wasn't asking tech support stuff. People were super rude and I felt like I was bothering them by them doing their job and this wasn't their problem. I chose to spend my money with your company. IDGAF.com should be the name, cause that's how you are made to feel after your purchase. We have your money, deal with it.

I've tried to talk to them directly to no avail. Hopefully they will see this here and have a rep who is actually human address their practices. So now I wait with this turnout; it will be about two weeks with an empty dash. And now have to pay someone to throw this in quick. I would've been ok with the wait, but I do not like being treated like an asshole.

That's why I've gone to mostly purchasing off Amazon. Even if the direct vendor sells it from their website, I tend to get significantly quicker shipping (Amazon Prime), outstanding order status, and worry free returns.

Oddly enough, you can typically find items significantly less than directly ordering from vendors, even when that same vendor is the supplier via Amazon.

I ordered a rear bumper and carrier today for $150 less than the vendor and have already received my tracking number for a Tuesday delivery.

I've felt your same pain enough that, in some cases, I'll even spend more to order the same thing off Amazon just for the peace of mind.

Never ordered from 4wd.com, but will say this... You order a $1,100 product that is defective and expect any company to take your word for it and send you another one without you sending the defective one back?

It is common practice for any online business to require you to return the product before sending you a replacement or issuing a refund.

I understand being disappointed in a defective product, but think you are being unreasonable thinking they will send you a replacement before you return the defective product. There are WAY too many cases of fraud to be sending customers replacements without the guarantee of getting the original product back.

My past experiences with Quadratec and Amazon are the two off the top of my head is they immediately ship out the replacement, in fact Quadratec next day aired my defective replacement, and if you don't promptly return the bad part they just charge you twice. Both of the venders sent a ups return shipper, so they know you've sent the bad part back.
In fact I told Quadratec no rush on my replacement, but they rushed it anyway. But then I think Quadratec rocks anyway I've always had great luck with them, everyone gets a bad part now and then. Just part of being human.
But in defense of the OP if your fair and kind to them, you have every right and expectation for them to treat you fair.

I always say it's not what companies do when things go right that matters nearly as much as what they do when things go wrong.

I've had very good experiences with both QT and Extreme Terrain the very few times when things went wrong, including them shipping out a replacement right away. I assume if I didn't return the original I would be charged twice. Fair enough. XT even offered me a deal where I returned a front bumper via UPS for $10, which I thought was really generous considering I was at fault for that one (changed my mind and bought a different one from them).

I've never purchased anything from 4WD. Thanks to this thread, I doubt I ever will. If their rep got it wrong, and it sounds like he did, that's fine but they should still honor that commitment in this particular case. In my line of work, I negotiate cases every day. My word is my bond, and I expect the same from opposing counsel.

I thought you could return items to 4WheelParts from 4WD. I'm almost positive that I did that a few years ago with some wheels.

I just had a very positive experience with Tom at 4WD. He took care of a issue I had that the manufacturer of the part wouldent.

I've purchased a few thousand dollars worth of items from 4wd.com over the last two years and never had any issues even when returning/exchanging items. Granted when I needed to return or exchange something I just took it back to my local 4Wheel Parts store & the employees have always immediately taken the item back no questions & issued the refund or exchange.

Sorry your experience wasn't the best.

I oredr from Rick @Quadratec for Lots of reasons not the least of which....Like the Pope said "Shit Happens" and when it does Rick makes it right.
That (IMO) is Priceless.
Don't tell Rick but I don't "shop him" because of that....

Occasionally He doesn't carry an item and that's different but it does give me cause for pause "Do I really need it?" (like adult diapers for instance, Rick doesn't carry those....)

As for getting the New part sent out right away....I do not see a big issue with that as a service provided. IF you Do NOT send back the defective part guess what? Exactly. They are getting the part back OR the $$$.

I always shake my head in this day and age EVERY internet vendor should be on their best behavior OR they are going to be behaving unemployed.

The problem with internet vendors is just like internet bullies... there is rarely any repercussion for bad behavior and "couldgivea****itis".

I ordered 5 BFG KO2's on sale. One was bad. Called them, sent pictures, ordered the replacement that came in a day, sent the bad one back with the supplied pre'paid mail tag. They Credited my Visa. All took about 2-3 weeks. No issues.

Sorry 4wd is giving fits. Usually a company will do an exchange swap and just charge you for both if you deadbeat on them and don't send it back.

Also - I agree with the others, Rick is great. Fantastic pricing and has almost anything. I rarely buy Jeep stuff elsewhere.

I had a similar experience. Ordered replacement rear soft top windows and received what were CLEARLY used windows. Of course I paid a new window price. Same thing, they want me to ship them back before they will send me the right ones. It has been hell getting anyone on the phone, and the CS manager clearly does not care at all. My jeep was broken into so now I am supposed to drive around with no windows because they sent me the wrong items. I could understand if what they sent me was the wrong NEW item...but that's not what happened. The worst CS experience I have ever had.

Extreme Terrain does the exact same thing as 4WD.com. No advance exchange.

I don't shop there anymore. Poor CS on top of that.
